“Don't stop Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

The only thing good about this place is the location facing beach front and center in Avalon. Service was extremely slow and the food was awful. Refried beans dry, pasty and tasteless. Flautas were not crispy at all, fish tacos bland, soggy coating and no flavor. There's a reason there's a wait at other places and not here. Disappointing.

“Great view of the bay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014

We stayed on Catalina Island for almost a week. We stopped at this restaurant cause of being able to sit at a long table facing the Ocean. The food was good. The service was friendly. We enjoyed it and went back every time we visited the Island.

“People watching spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2014

We stop here every time we're in Avalon. Try to get a seat at the counter that fronts the restaurant, order a pitcher of piña coladas or margaritas and enjoy watching the people go by. The burrito and cheesy nachos are good and filling--you may want to share. The waitress was attentive.

“Disorganized waitstaff & overpriced menu, especially for lunch”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

The Catalina Cantina was not at all crowded when we arrived for lunch one weekday. After a server showed us to our table and took our order, another server stopped by to ask if we our order had been taken. We said yes, but then I was headed to the restroom, the first server stopped me and asked me what I ordered. When I returned to the table a few minutes later, a third server appeared and asked us if our order had been taken. Apparently the Keystone Cops run the place.

I found the chicken wings appetizer practically inedible and made a lunch out of celery sticks instead. My husband enjoyed his rice and bean burrito, which admittedly was large enough to feed at least two people. With one drink each, the burrito entree and appetizer, our bill was $40 before tip, pretty pricey for cheap Mexican food at lunch.

There are plenty of other restaurant choices in Avalon Bay, and so I suggest bypassing this place.

“Wish we chose another place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

Service was mediocre at best. We were a group of 6 and only 1 of 3 tables and the service took 10 minutes to even acknowledge us. The food was basic bar fare. Prices for food were not bad considering the location. The drinks however, were pretty bad. DON'T get the bowl drinks. They are served in cereal bowls and are $25 each. The price is not listed and they are very week. One positive note was that the guacamole was ok. Probably won't return to this place and wish we waited in line for better food at another restaurant
