“Homey Little Hotel on Catalina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

This is not a luxury property. But it IS a nice little hotel with a warm homey feel on Catalina. The staff go out of their way to help - want wine glasses? a hot pot to boil your eggs in? recommendations on where to go snorkeling? - the warm and welcoming personalities of the Assistant Manager and her staff are as first rate as I've seen anywhere in the world. The property is centrally located, but quiet and off the main drag, and it is very very clean. The continental breakfast is small, but there is nothing wrong with the coffee, juice and muffins. Relax and enjoy some island time. I would recommend this property to family and friends, but perhaps not for business or the ultimate in romance.

Room Tip: Many of the rooms do not have a view, so if this is important to you, be sure to ask for a view room...

“Hotel of last resort”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2012

5/16/2012
This place is fine, unfortunately the staff is horrible. Staying here is like staying at someone's home that doesn't want you there and is passively aggressively tolerating you there. Only stay here if you have no other option and don't expect to feel welcome. The owner is a grumpy old man that probably doesn't realize that things like online reviews exist so he feels free to treat his guest like cattle and Christine and Kathy are the staff to avoid if you're unlucky enough to have to stay here.
Catalina is great and expensive, don't go through all the work and expense to get there and only to end up having your vacation ruined by staying at Casa Mariquita.

“Inn-side Avalon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2012

This was our second stay at this property and lived up to our experience on the first. Consistent with even more bubbling personality from Melinda and Christine! You cannot go wrong with the hotel's personable qualities, its' location and ambiance. Nice muffins, coffee and orange juice wake up call. You're on island time and they make it a truly "island time" stay. Be forewarned, however (and they will forewarn you) room #1 across from the lobby is noisy per the residents at the time of our stay (Christine and I had a laugh about that complaint for the duration of the morning). Don't say you weren't told so! A delightful experience and extremely accommodating staff! We'll be back for the Spencer Davis Group exhibition in June!

Room Tip: 2nd floor and up

“BEST Hotel on Catalina!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2012

I have stayed here at least (5) times and absolutely LOVE it! The rooms are very nice size and are very clean! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and "Lauren" is so wonderful and helped us have the best experience on Catalina!

Room Tip: Rooms with (2) beds are really lovely and get great sunlight!

“Best place we've ever stayed in on Catalina! And good value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

My husband and I have been visiting Catalina for over 20 years for family visits. This time, a resident recommended the Casa Mariquita.Well, THIS is the place we'll be coming back to! We can't say enough about Christine, Lauren, Evelyn and Melinda -- delightful and helpful! The room was lovely as was the hotel property. It's not for anyone with mobility issues -- lots of steps -- but otherwise it has our whole-hearted recommendation!
