“Very friendly, great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2011

My spouse and I stayed for one night, and we were very pleased. Christine at the front desk was very friendly, helping us store our luggage until check-in time, and offering hiking and other tips for activities in Avalon. The hotel had a outdoorsy, Spanish feel, which fit well for Catalina's outdoor activities. The bed was very comfortable.

A couple shortcomings: (1) the breakfast is limited pretty much to muffins and oatmeal, so it may not suffice for all guests (still a good value though); and (2) the bathroom is very tight and has the appearance out of a cheap motel. The hotel seemed to invest more in the bedset and the sink/vanity, which were beautiful. Overall, quiet location and great value.

We really liked our stay at Casa Mariquita. It was an easy walk (about 7 minutes) down to the main street of Avalon. It was nice to walk to our hotel, especially after a big meal and being up the hill a little gave us some very nice views of the water. Enjoyed seeing a cruise ship from our windows one morning. Our rooms were immaculate and beautifully furnished. Our one-bedroom suite included a good sized family room (large couch and chair with ottomen) complete with huge flat screen TV/DVD player and instant fireplace! Fireplace wasn't real but did generate some heat and was a very nice touch. We even had a small private deck! Very comfortable room. Our children shared a room with two beds, but joined us to watch movies in our suite. The staff was extremely friendly. We enjoyed a complementary continental breakfast (just juice, coffee, muffins, and oatmeal), but most days we wanted to enjoy one of the adorable restaurants in the town for our breakfast. I don't think the hotel has an elevator, but I personally enjoyed walking up the few flights of stairs to our room. Hotel had several pretty outside sitting areas (little decks with patio furniture) where you could sit and enjoy the sun! We would definitely stay here again.

I really liked my stayed at the Casa Mariquita Hotel. Perched on a hill about five minutes walking from the water, we had beautiful panoramic views from out room. The room was nicely furnished and recently redecorated, and the hotel has a unique layout which provides many semi-private balconies and nooks to read a book or enjoy the sun and views. The staff was extremely friendly, offering a warm welcome and insider's tips and advice about the island. I would highly recommended this hotel for an overnight stay on the island.

My wife and I stayed at Casa Mariquita, July 2010 for my birthday. We had a great time, this was our first time visiting Catalina Island. The hotel was very nice and clean. The customer service was great. We stayed in the penthouse what a room with a terrific view of the ocean and downtown. The hotel is very close to downtown (within walking distance) but far enough away from the noise. I also had a friend that stayed there over the weekend and saw his room also, very clean and nice with a nice view. I would recommend this hotel if you are going to stay on Catalina Island. We are going back in April 2011 can't wait to get back to Casa Mariquita and Catalina Island.

We stayed in rooms 16 and 17 I think they were, each had a king bed and were on the interior so no street noise. We slept very well on nice beds. Staff was friendly and extended our checkout for 40 minutes so we could change clothes after a morning tour and before our ferry ride back to Long Beach. And they let us book for just one weekend night three months out; most all the other hotels required a two night stay, unless they had lots of space 10 days or so before your date then they would accommodate just a one night reservation. We didn't want to hassle with that so Casa Mariquita was just perfect for us. A little upgrade of the breakfast would be nice--maybe a few more pastries, some fruit and yogurt. That wouldn't cost much and would certainly be more satisfying. I would stay next time for sure.

This hotel was a short walk from the pier but not ocean front. Away from the late night noise of the bars.
We were greeted by a smiling and welcoming face. That makes a big difference after a long day at work and then travel. The night manager upgraded our King Room to a King Suite. This room was big with a separate living room. The room had a balcony that you could view most of Avalon. Gorgeous room and gorgeous view.
If you want a good deal for a golf cart to see the island, see the front desk.
Great stay in Avalon at this hotel, we will return!
