“An escape from the mainland, well worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Hubby and I took 2 nights/3 days off from the kids to come to Catalina, and decided early on the Avalon. The staff was super friendly and warm, and we feel like we got exactly what we had planned - a clean, nicely done room with a beautiful view of the harbor. The only reason I didn't give more stars was simply because the room was so incredibly tiny we barely fit (we are both over 6'). But otherwise I would say to travelers that you wouldn't be disappointed at the Avalon. It is bright, cherry, and very well located.

Room Tip: We had 306 - which was teeny. I think some of the other rooms are larger.

What a delightful hotel. Just off of the beaten path but close enough to everything. A short walk from the ferry or take a golf cart limo. The rooms were beautifully laid out with comforts abound. We love the African mahogany wood that decorated the room and entry door. We stayed in room 301 that faced the harbor and I think is the best room in the hotel. We were treated to the full moon rising up between the palm trees for a surreal view. They have roof top viewing with bar stools and tables available. We enjoyed the company of the owners at the wine and cheese party on Friday night. They were gracious hosts. The only problem is the visit was too short. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I stayed here for his birthday. The whole town is so friendly. The hotel's location is great, walking distance to all the small shops and restaurants. Our innkeeper was so helpful with restaurants and activities.I love the gold fish/ koi pond.

Room Tip: Choose Balcony View,it's more economical, you can go to the rooftop For breakfast and have an o...

My husband and I stayed here this past weekend, we were celebrating our anniversary. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. It is located just above the Metropole, and is an Arts & Crafts designed hotel. The rooms were very nice, comfortable beds, nice bathrooms.. They have wine and cheese each evening in the courtyard, with a fire pit and koi pond and lots of plants, very cozy, and we met some very nice people. The manager Laurie is so nice, along with her husband, made our stay so enjoyable! Would highly recommend to anyone! Would stay here again, and will hopefully in the not to distant future!!

We recently stayed at the Avalon for a mini vacation and it was magical. From the cheese and wine on Friday night to the departing breakfast. Lori (the caretaker) was amazing. Super helpful with ideas (if you need any) of what to do to where to eat. It is definitely on our list when we stay on Catalina Island.

Room Tip: You can choose an ocean room but personally if you stay in your room to look at the ocean you are mi...

Very nice hotel with friendly staff. I was expecting a larger hotel from the website. Hotel is small and quaint. Nice for couples or small groups. Would not recommend for larger groups looking for a party atmosphere as the vibe of the hotel seems pretty relaxed. Very short walk to beach and everything else in Avalon.
