“Beautiful view, quiet, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Avalon celebrating our wedding anniversary. We were treated with complimentary wine in our room with pretty wine glasses. The patio roof deck was a pleasant spot for enjoying our wine and the view. Our floor had a comfy seating area next to a window that I enjoyed sitting at reading. The outdoor patio with fire pit and koi pond was inviting. We enjoyed relaxing on the patio in the morning with our delicious breakfast and also in the evening for happy hour. Laurie made us feel like we were all friends visiting and Diana also was very nice and helpful. The room was very comfy, all the extra little touches made us very welcome. We especially liked all the wood in the hotel. It made it so warm. Lovely place.

Room Tip: We enjoyed our room overlooking the garden area.

We stayed at the Avalon Hotel in October. We choose the garden room as it had a kingsize bed and was larger than the view rooms. If you want a view room take the 3rd floor as the lower floors have a view of the hotel in front. The view deck rooms are very small (per hotel guests). Breakfast is included and served in a very nice garden; similar to every European city we have visted. The weather was great so the hummingbirds were out in force.

The hotel is walking distance to everything in town. They mention stairs but we didn't see them as any problem. There is a roof top deck that (we did find it to be a little windy during our stay) has a nice view of Avalon.

The hotel manager, Laurie was very friendly and accomodating.

Four old friends enjoyed a brief, very enjoyable stay. Laurie and staff are perfect hosts and made us feel truly at home. Wish they had rooms with 2 beds but towels, treats, toiletries...all great! Connected balconies added to our fun.

Slightly delayed review...my mom and I chose the Avalon for a Catalina trip back in July. What a great choice! The Avalon was lovely and relaxing and Laurie really made us a feel at home. We loved the comfortable bed and special touches like snacks in the lobby and wine and cheese happy hour. It is a little pricey, but worth it. We would definitely stay here again.

Just returned from a 5 day stay at The Avalon during the Catalina Jazz Festival. I can't say enough about the hotel, the staff and the Island. Although it has a subdued look from the street it is actually a very well appointed hotel with a wonderful courtyard and rooftop deck. The staff were amazing especially the manager Lori. A group of guests, some of which who didnt know each other before arriving, ended up becoming friends and no doubt because of the fun atmosphere of the hotel. The management not only allowed us to use the BBQ on the roof for a group dinner but helped out with plates, utensils, etc. making it truly a party for all.

The rooms come with a continental breakfast which I usually write off as being danishes, corn flakes and toast. In this case it was first class with scones, fruit, granola, hard boiled eggs, breads...served in the courtyard with the waterfall and koi pond....just awesome.

Our room, 301, had a spectacular view of the harbor with a wrap around deck, outdoor wet bar and nice wooden chaise lounge chairs. No question an expensive stay but given the event and the ambiance I don't regret spending the money for a second.

I cant recommend this place enough. Will certainly be back for next years festival and another stay at The Avalon.

Room Tip: When getting a view room the view is great but you do pay more. I think worth it but up to you.

After searching multiple properties on Catalina (all of which I am sure are also great)....we were delighted to check into the Avalon and find friendly service, a first class room with a lovely balcony with an ocean view and all inclusive amenities. The innkeeper couldn't have been nicer and her staff was most accommodating as well. The roof top terrace provided 360 views of the harbor, the mountains and everything you could want on lovely cloudless nights. Highly recommend.
