I stayed there midweek in december so it was very quiet, the weather was perfect and the price very reasonable, especially with coffee and microwave in the room!! It's nice that you can keep your luggage at the Hermosa Hotel that is more centrally located. Staff was very nice at both locations.

The wife and I stayed here nov 18/19 2014 for my birthday. Upon arrival we noticed that there was a film crew shooting in the rooms down stairs. This immediately annoyed me. I work in film and tv the last thing I wanted to see was a film crew, let alone a crew filming at this SMALL hotel. The first night the film crew was very loud and hanging around outside our room. I called the after hours emergency line and spoke to a woman who could have caredless that it was 9pm at night and that a guest was very irritated. She informed me that the film crew was supposed to stop at 10 pm. The crew stopped shooting at 1am the entire time we heard banging and other noises. The film crew had bright lighting that filled our room with light through every crack in the tiny curtains. We got no sleep at all. We were so disappointed that we left the next night and got a much nicer room at the metropole.
Moral of the story is if you want rest don't stay here.
Jim Turner

Room tip: Don't stay here.

Thank you for taking your time to leave feedback. We have a quiet time policy after 10:00 PM, so we are unable to enforce the policy before then. The most we can do is politely ask the guests to quiet down. If someone is being noisy after 10 PM, we make it a point to make sure the policy is kept in place and our guests are comfortable. Our after hours log does not reflect that there were any complaints after 10 PM, but we would have gone up if there were any.

A sad, short, and expensive stay. Website says that office is open 9-5 daily, but don't get in any hurry to check in. Use the red phone on front to call and wait. And wait. Call again and wait. We had the "suite" with ocean view, but on hot days, room will never cool off. They put mechanical timer in wall to control outlet for AC that only runs for an hour. They said that it's an Edison regulation for older properties, but older property down the street said that's not true. Theirs didn't have timers. So timers at CBH are there just to save on their electrical bill. And god forbid that you get deathly ill and have to go home. Read their fine print. You still pay it all. We had to leave after two nights, and I'm out $1000. Avoid it and save yourself the grief.

The room was nicely decorated, had microwave, fridge, TV all the basics you would expect. We had a small balcony which my smoker-friend was pleased with. Shuttle service upon check in and out was appreciated. We accidentally picked a horribly busy weekend to getaway, so the hotel was crowded and all we were able to get for $235 was a 1-night stay in a single bed queen. yikes.. the neighboring rooms guests where incredibly loud and drunk past 1am (again the ONE night we stayed). Another annoyance was that when I went to brew a cup of coffee that was provided, I had discovered it was expired.. so there went that. Wouldn't stay again but maybe we just picked a bad time to come.

I went to Catalina for the first time for my birthday. I stayed at the Catalina Boathouse and I will NEVER go back!!!...the rooms are old, small and cramped. There is no internet unless you go outside your room to do so. bathroom is so tiny you barely have enough room to turn left or right...it is not worth what they charge you to stay there. When I asked about exchanging the room for possibly another one, I was told that they had none and if I didn't like the room to let them know so they could get a better price for it. Would not recommend to anyone who has standards in where they stay.

You're right, you selected one of our small Value rooms and we were otherwise sold out and unable to offer you a larger room for your birthday. We hoped you enjoyed your birthday and all the great freebies that come with the Catalina Express birthday special!
