“Very Plesant Stay at the Atwater”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

My main review was done previously on Yelp and I am too lazy to repeat it here. In brief, very clean, staff was great, beds extremely comfortable. Ambiance is wonderful - brings you back to another era. Highly recommend.

“Taste of classic old building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

The stairs were a bit steep and the bathroom was tiny. However, the room was clean and bed was comfortable. I guess you couldn't ask for a better deal in the overpriced island. The concierge were helpful and friendly.

“Birthday in Avalon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We had an issue with our reservation prior to arrival as when I called to confirm my reservation and discuss adding tours to my reservation; I was told my reservation was for a different date. After talking to 3 people I finally spoke with the manager and he was able to locate the reservation, what a relief! Still I do not know why the others could not find it. When we arrived at the hotel our room was not ready, so they stored our luggage while we went to have lunch. Once we checked in and got to our room, we found it nice and the people at the desk were very nice. We were upgraded for a fee that included tours and I was happy with the quality of the two tours we were able to attend.
Towels are thin but clean as was the room. No blow dryer, so I had to go to dinner with wet hair. If you want a basic room for a decent price this is the place.
At check-out time the hotel stored our bags until our ship left, because it departed at 4:30 and check out time is 11. I was glad because I saw people dragging luggage around town and I sure did not want to that. All in all it was a fun trip and we would stay here again as long as they keep the price down.

Room Tip: We were onthe 3rd floor with the window facing the water.

“made at home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

A great little stay for our family trip.
A real good deal found by our niece Tracy.
Discounted tours and attractions which included a special Zip Line experience
Guided by Ben & Lorenzo who certainly made it interesting and great fun
The East End tour guide was Theresa she was the absolute best witty informative and knowledgeable thank you all for a great stay
Min's from the water, great for the divers and easy for the ferry.
We will try to make it back some day

“Off the boardwalk, quiet and comfortable.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

The hotel is two buildings away from the Crescent boardwalk. The location allows for a quieter stay, but is just a few steps from the action.

The third floor rooms with Harbor views are plenty good enough for a postcard shot of the Casino and the cruise ships that come in around 7am.

There is no lift and no wheelchair access. This deficiency could present problems for the disabled traveler, but it is well posted on the website.

The room is clean and pleasant, although spartan in its look. It does not have the over-decorated look of the B&Bs, or the sleek corporate look of the chains. But it does have a certain warmth with its minimalist approach.

Yes simple is good, but no desk, even a small one, counts as another deficiency. You will find it hard to try to write or do work on the Mac, unless you are the type who works sprawled on the bed.

Wi-fi is free and is quite stable, with only a few hang-ups during a three day stay. The speed is acceptable for basic web browsing but at a download speed of 120kb/sec, it will not do for live streaming or downloading megafiles.

Front desk is very friendly and professional. Ask and they will suggest plenty of valuable info. A majority of the tours could be purchased right there and the tickets printed on the spot. Tours start at the plaza, just a dozen steps across the street.

Overall the hotel is a good choice that gives a nice punch for your travel budget. A few blemishes are minor and could be fixed without too much effort.

Room Tip: No lift for disabled travelers. No desk.
