“WONDERFUL HOTEL! ROMANTIC STAY!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2010

Period of stay: Thursday - Saturday - August 12-14, 2010.

The hotel had a wonderful Victorian charm. We stayed on the 3rd floor overlooking Avalon (Ocean View). The room was fairly spacious and we paid extra for the view and jacuzzi. The room had a round table by the windows with a nice view of the ocean. The bed was comfortable and the interior of the room was pleasing and as stated fairly spacious. My wife and I had a wonderful time. The only draw back was only coffee in the morning (there was no juice or croissants)... The staff were courteous, linens were clean and so was the room cleanliness demonstrated from housekeeping. The unlocked luggage room could be a concerning factor. The 6th floor patio boasts a view of Avalon. It most certainly offered a breathe taking view. My wife and I brought a glass of wine with us and viewed the night lights of the city and the crystal clear view of the stars. very romantic and nice! The place we found for a nice dinners is Steve's Steak House (get the window view, dead center overlooking the ocean. Most of the stores are touristy, there are some nicer shops for clothes, sunglasses and other items. You definitely want to go during the week and when school is in session. We arrived on Thursday and it was very nice, not many people, very relaxing. Friday and Saturday it started getting very crowded (folks coming in for the day on the weekend and tons of children). Dining could be expensive...Look for the outside dining establishments. I cannot remember the name of this place, however it was a block over from the hotel and served very nice breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Overall a wonderful stay, and will come back to ST. Lauren again with no hesitation.

My girlfriend and & I wanted to get away for a quick trip, so we decided on Catalina. I searched the web for hotels, and after reading the reviews, decided on the Hotel St. Lauren. Unfortunately, there were some not-so-pleasant reviews. But the St. Lauren wasn't the only one. So, based on previous experience, I reasoned that there are usually two types of people leaving reviews, those whom are satisfied, and those whom cannot be satisfied. And again, with the Hotel St. Lauren, this was true. I read carefully all of the accommodations, and decided to get standard king room and was very satisfied. So, is the hotel old? Yes. But so are all the other hotels in Avalon- But the prices were more reasonable, and the unique amenities were what I based my decision on. I enjoy the charm of the old Victorian style. If you're looking for the Ritz- move on. Was it clean? Yes. Was it spotless? It's an old hotel. All things considered, it was very nice. The bed was VERY comfortable- very nice after along day of sight-seeing. Speaking of seeing, the hotel has an excellent view of the town & harbor from the 6th floor patio. Very nice to sit and enjoy a no-host drink or meal. The negative reviews are unwarranted. I would definitely stay there again.

Our experience at the Hotel St. Lauren was wonderful! We purchased a block of ten rooms for our wedding guests/party. The rooms were very nice. We had the wedding ceremony on the hotel's 6th floor balcony/rooftop. It was absolutely gorgeous. The views of Avalon were amazing. We received compliments on finding such a beautiful venue.. The building itself is a victorian with endearing charm. The staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you Colleen and Marlene! Our guests were all happy. What more could we ask for?

wow what a terrible experience. this hotel made us despise Catalina Island.
It is so creepy ! I was not expecting 4 Seasons or anything, but for almost $300.00 a night, I wanted a descent Hotel/Room. This makes our local Motel 6 look good.
my complaints are in no particular order 1. room is small 2. room smells like old crap 3. elevators stink 4. hallways stink. 5. the bed is so damn uncomfortable, (mattress is horrible, pillows are cheap and so not comfy, blanket is old and stinky. The staff is so weird and not professional. People, save your $$$, this pink weird stinky hotel, is a waste !!!!

I strongly discourage anybody from staying at this hotel. I won't go into the details of a long story, but we had grave concerns about the staff, to the point where we felt threatened, and completely uncomfortable staying at the establishment any longer. The management was defensive, and unconcerned, and refused any refund or remediation for our dissatisfaction. Despite the unwillingness to refund our room fee (which was collected at check-in!), we checked out and walked down the street to find a beach-front hotel with nicer amenities for $85 less a night!

We visited Catalina Island for the first time and this hotel was beautiful and victorian. The rooms are very spacious and have comfortable beds. They have free coffee in the hallway and the staff is extremely friendly! We were only going to stay one night but decided to stay two! It is a bit of a hike up the mountain but that was part of the fun being in California, visiting from Florida :) Oh the 6th floor offers a panoramic view of the City of Avalon and the Pacific Ocean! We got the room for a discount searching online for only $150 the first night but the 2nd night was higher $250 because it was 7/2nd.
Loved it here!

A quiet hotel with a nice ocean view from the 6th floor patio. Great coffee, but it was only available from 8 to 10 am. Unfortunetly the patio which was a great place to sit in the morning wasn't unlocked until 9:00 am. Tim was eager to make our stay in Catalina memorable. The rooms were nice, but the plastic mattress covers were annoying and kept waking us up. Don't expect updates in an old Victorian house. They have luggage storage that you can leave your things in once you have checkout, this was very convienent and free. The airconditioning worked very well, but if the windows are kept open at night the cool night air is great also. Nice location and great views.
