“A real Birthday treat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

Lovely hotel, central to restaurants and shops. Nice clean room with fireplace, very cozy. A birthday treat for me from my husband. The hotel had a birthday surprise in the room at check-in.
Staff very courteous and helpful. Very nice, will definitely stay there again in the future.

Room Tip: I could imagine every room at this hotel was a good room. If you want a view of the ocean you may n...

We just left the Hotel Vista Del Mar and everything about this small botique hotel was amazing! The hotel is a very short walk from the ferry terminal and the location is perfectly located in the center of Avalon.
Our room was a courtyard King suite and spotlessly cleaned and very comfortable! My wife and I felt so relaxed during our stay that we did not want to leave. If you are looking for a perfect get away to Catalina, you will not be disappointed with this amazing hotel.

Staff was very accommodating. Breakfast was good, cookies at night were a special treat. They had movies you could borrow, nice touch. Rooms are beautiful. Fireplace, awesome. It was great that they held your luggage for you before your check in and after your check out times.

My teen daughter and I stayed at the Vista Del Mar for the better part of a week. The room was spacious, modern yet cozy, with a fireplace that certainly added the perfect amount of warmth to the chilly evenings. (The fact that the bathroom had no door, though, was a bit of a surprise, and was the only down note on an otherwise perfect setting.)

The continental breakfasts were wonderful. My daughter raved about the cookies and milk at night, and I certainly appreciated the hot cider that was available all day long. The free DVD collection was also a bonus.

The hotel is perfected located! Right on the main pedestrian drag, across from the beach, with a great view of the harbor. Being above Steve's Steakhouse was a plus! Overall, a lovely, lovely place.

Dear Sylvie:

Thank you very much for all your wonderful compliments. This response is only to help clarify for others reading this your statement that "the bathroom had no door" . All of our bathrooms have doors. We designed the bathroom as two rooms. One is the shower and toilet room, with a door. The other is our skylighted sink and dressing area which has an opening into the main bedroom area. This allows dual use of the sink and dressing area if the other part of the bathroom is being used.

We do appreciate your input and positive comments since we are always trying to exceed the guest expectation.

Sincerely,

Jerry Dunn

If you had a choice between this hotel and any other hotel, choose this one! My experience definitely exceeded my expectations. Right from the start, reserving a room was quick and easy. Checking in and checking out was done with ease. The view from the hotel was absolutely beautiful and the location is right where all the shops and restaurants are. The continental breakfast and cookies and milk at night were such a comforting factor (no need to grab breakfast in the morning or dessert after dinner!) My friend and I took the "More for Less" deal, which was just paying for the full amount of a room for 1 night, and each additional night was $75. Here is a list of some perks: DVD collection, 100% cleanliness, luggage storage (Service even after checking out? AMAZING. No need to carry around our luggage before our departure), fireplace, air conditioning, functional lobby to lounge around, availability of beach towels.
This hotel is THE perfect place to stay at in Catalina Island. I will definitely be back if I ever get the chance to visit Avalon again!

Room Tip: Ocean View Suite is the only room w/ a view. Any other room just has a paneled window to the lobby...

Spent 2 nights here last week. Our first trip to Catalina. Service and location were wonderful. Walking distance to everything. Stayed with my husband and 8 year old. Was skeptical because it is a small 14 room hotel and we usually stay at large resort. My kid loved the cookies and milk at night and the continental breakfast was better than I expected. Hot cider was available all day long. Only complaint, is that there was no window looking directly to the outside. However, we didn't miss not having a window to the outside much as we took advantage of sitting in the front hall directly in front of the windows with ocean/harbor view. There were windows looking into courtyard but had to keep the blinds closed since that is the hallway. We were in room 103 a King suite right by the front desk. We would definitely stay here again! Would try to book one of the ocean view suites. Hotel was a little hard to find at first as there was construction in a store front in front of the hotel stairway. Head up the stairs past Steve's restaurant and you are in the right place.

Booked this property by sheer luck, looking for a package deal from Dana Point on the ferry. Hotel took care of the package booking, and very smooth. A little extra time at one hour and twenty minutes from Dana Point, vs. Long Beach, and a couple of bucks, but worth it. Arrive early to ferry as you are guided a distance away and then tote your luggage. Back to this great place. The room we were quoted on the phone was not the room we received. Nonetheless, it was a very nice room, very clean, with fireplace and minibar and wonderful tiled shower area. Room dimmer switches added ambience. The cookies served warm in the evening with milk an added homey touch. The breakfast assortment was plentiful and well tended. You can look out over the ocean as you eat. Staff helpful. One feature that was really welcomed was that the luggage can be stored after checkout until the ferry leaves later in the day. You do have to walk up 2 flights, and there was construction on the first floor level that began at 8 am. A nice steakhouse is right below on the second floor. One feature that we really wanted was a fax, and both this property and the sister property in Avalon did not have a working fax the day we needed it. After a wild goose chase all over town, Leo's Drugstore did the faxing, which worked out well. Right down the street. Who knew? Rebecca and Sarah very helpful, and all staff very professional that we dealt with over course of 2 days stay. The ocean suites looked excellent and the views and location could not be beat. I would stay again at this property in a heartbeat.
