“LOVED IT!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Room is clean, beautiful and has nice amenities. Fireplace was visible to the living room and the bedroom. The bed is super comfy. We got there early and because our room was available and clean already they called us and let us check in at 9AM!! My husband went to the front desk to buy a bottle of champagne and they said it "complementary" and handed him two flutes and a 25 dollar bottle of champagne. Believe me we made excellent use of the time in the room. I was not aware they provided a turn down service and we had booze, money, medication, porn and lingerie laying everywhere. I keep a spotless home, but it was my 14th anniversary and I wasn't cleaning up until we were going to leave... the maid came in while we were out getting refueled and the only thing we didn't leave lying around was a dead hooker and a bunch of coke... lol.... I was mortified that a stranger saw my dirty stuff... but she overlooked the "toys" several changes of slutty lingerie, and mess, remade our bed, picked up the towels and gave us clean new folded ones, left us a couple bottles of water and some chocolates...
The next morning there was a continental breakfast in the lobby... Starbucks coffee, juices, a few different kinds of cereals, several kinds and flavors of oatmeal, yogurt, pastries, muffins, toaster and cream cheese... and fruits. I took a huge tray back to the room and we laid around eating breakfast in comfort and blissful quiet. The shower is huge, the Jacuzzi tub is huge and has plenty of hot water. They provided a delicious smelling shampoo, conditioner and lotion, as well as bar soap, lots of towels. They must have a water softener because my skin and my husbands skin never felt softer or more supple. The furniture is clean and comfortable and very stylish. reasonable prices in the mini bar, and selection. They have cucumber and lime slices in a huge ice water tankard in the same area where the breakfast was served, and at night they have fresh chocolate chip cookies and milk.
I LOVED THIS PLACE! I had a wonderful anniversary, and we were well taken care of.
I'd like to make a new tradition of going there on my anniversary to celebrate.. The only negative thing was we were all the way in the back, right next to the stairs, so we heard people who were loud (= rude) running up and down the stairs and Friday is trash day so right at 8 am they were banging around the dumpsters and taking care of business. I also was under the impression when I booked the room that I had an ocean view suite. I didn't, it was as far from the ocean view as I could get. But the positives far out weighed the few negatives.

Room Tip: The rear rooms are close to the stairs and the dumpsters... people running up and down the stairs ec...

The hotel is on the third floor and offers wonderful views of the Avalon waterfront, from the open air lobby. We stayed in a courtyard room and loved it. The rooms are on the smaller side, but feature very comfortable beds, A/C, large screen flat panel TV, and FREE WiFi. There are fresh, warm cookies and milk in the evenings, and fresh pastries in the morning. The hotel staff is friendly and very informative.

The rooms are a tad on the pricy side, but it is location, location, location. We had such a good time, we plan to make the trip to Catalina again next year! I highly recommend Hotel Vista Del Mar!

Room Tip: If you will be gone for the evening, let the front desk know and they will leave cookies and milk in...

We stayed in an ocean front room. Amazing! Everyone that works there is so wonderful. The view at night from the balcony is magical! Plus, we met so many great people staying at the hotel. Can't wait to go back!!

We have stayed numerous times at VDM year after year and always enjoyed our stay there. The rooms are beautiful, the staff are always kind and willing to help you in any way. This year, we splurged and stayed in the front Ocean View Suite (#102) for our 40th Anniversary gift to each other. Yes, it was higher than we normally paid in the past, but well worth it. The room with private balcony was gorgeous, to say the least. The view was breath taking and enjoyed every minute of it. The Art show and Film Festival was going this weekend at the same time and even a Cruise ship came in on Saturday and we got to see it all from the balcony! Thank you VDM and Staff for your warm welcome (including our complimentary bottle of champagne) :-) . You are the BEST! Mike and Natalie

Room Tip: The Ocean View Suite: You do hear more street noise (people talking, Karaoke at El Galleon Restaura...

Everything was great but it was pricey. We stayed in the Avalon courtyard suite in September. It was very lovely and clean. Fresh pastries in the morning. I just think the room was way over priced at 425 a night plus taxes and fees.

Recently a friend and I ventured to Catalina Island for our first visit and my Birthday treat. We stayed at the Vista Del Mar and were pleasantly rewarded with a spectacular view of the Casino Icon and the variety of floating vessels. The staff was exceptional with our check in, allowing us to store our luggage and call my cell when our room was ready. Our room was very appealing with a unique décor, spacious and the shower was perfect with a tiled bench to sit on and soak to your hearts content. All in all I would definitely stay here in our future visits.

Room Tip: You will have to climb stairs. No elevator available.

First and foremost, the staff at Hotel Vista Del Mar are incredibly kind, polite and accommodating. Rooms are not guaranteed until 3pm but they have a free baggage check so you explore the island until your room is ready -- in our case, they called my cell and we were able to check in an hour and a half early.

We stayed in a Courtyard Deluxe room, which was spacious and clean. Our room (107) was next to a supply closet so there was the occasional bump or knock but nothing to complain about. If I have an issue it is the layout of the hotel is a bit strange. It's located on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator. Keep that in mind if you have a lot of luggage (or in my case, a very pregnant wife). Also, the rooms don't open to the outdoors, instead they all face a single semi-open air "courtyard." The courtyard roof is a skylight so you get plenty of natural light in what would otherwise be a large hallway.
