“Nice and clean -- best location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2005

My friend and I stayed in Room 101 (on the ground floor) November 17 through 20, 2005. What a nice surprise! Our room was clean and nicely furnished with 2 full sized beds, a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, and a small refrigerator that we stocked with champagne, cheese, crackers, sandwiches, and fruit purchased at the C.C. Gallagher store and Deli a couple of doors down from the hotel. There's also a Vons Express a block away and a small Vons two blocks away. The large courtyard has several chaise lounges and several nice patio tables/chairs/umbrellas for relaxing in the sun or shade. The hotel serves their continental breakfast of coffee, decaf, a selection of teas, milk, OJ, cold cereal, hot oatmeal, bagels, muffins, pastries, cream cheese, apples, oranges, butter, and jams in the middle of the courtyard every morning from 7 until 11 a.m. This hotel is in a perfect location just a short stroll from the Catalina Express dock and on Crescent Ave -- 14 steps from the beach -- and right in the middle of all the shops and restaurants. You can book Discovery tours at the hotel's front desk for island tours and activities. The hotel offers a free service of delivering your luggage to the Catalina Express dock so you don't have to drag or carry your suitcases to the dock when you leave. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a couple of complaints -- the people in the room above ours stomped and jumped around at night. We called the front desk at 1:15 a.m. to complain and they took care of it immediately. Our room looked recently rennovated except for the carpet which was old and stained, but I would definitely stay there again. The carpet was well vacuumed and didn't leave any visible dirt on our bare feet so we ignored it. Our beds were comfortable and the nightly rate was $100.00 less than what I payed at the Metropole Hotel in Avalon several months ago. Show your AAA (auto club) card and get a big discount on your first night's stay. The Metropole was nice -- but for the money I'll choose the Pavilion Lodge any day.

My wife and I stayed at the Pavillion on Nov 16 and 17th. Its an older hotel that was renovated in the last year or two. There is a beautifully landscaped courtyard. The rooms are typical size and the King Size bed we had was very comfortable. Something similar to what you find in top hotels. The room was clean and nicely decorated with a refridge (no microwave). Rooms are quite and in my view very nice. Especially considering the very fair price and excellant location. Staff was freindly. Their is a continental breakfast. Nothing fancy Small muffins, bagels, juice, cereal coffee and tea. I recommend this place for a restful pleasent weekend.

Good news: The staff at this small hotel was very friendly and helpful. The "mid-century" feel is fun and the rooms are nicely decorated.

Bad news: The rooms are tiny, way too small for three people to maneuver comfortably. Very uncomfortable mattresses that provided no support whatsoever. We were told the beds are just a few years old. The carpet was filthy, not just dirty, but filthy. We could not walk on it in bare feet. We complained and it was shampooed, which made it wet for the rest of the day. Overall, not a great experience.

We stayed at the Pavilion for 3 days / 2 nights and this is one of the few times I have stayed at a hotel and had nothing to complain about. Our courtyard rooms were quiet and clean. Eveything had been recently remodeled and the rooms were quite attractive. The bed was very comfortable. There was a beautiful outdoor patio area to sit in. The staff was exceptionally helpful. We were in Avalon for the Catalina Triathlon and the hotel let us check in early, stored our bikes, etc. Also, the hotel is right on the beach. I am not affiliated with this hotel in any way, and I would highly recommend it.

The location was great! The beds were comfortable and the room was adorable. Our kids have never been to Catalina and loved the fact that it was 14 steps away from the beach (my son counted!) It was so convenient downtown. The continental breakfast was nice.....mini muffins, cereal, fruit, coffee, milk, juice, mini bagels...all in the garden area. It was a nice to sit in the perfect weather and eat our breakfast in the garden. Had a great time! I'll stay there again....even for the price!
