Old Town Auburn, California, is a Gold Country jewel in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, just off Interstate 80 (I-80). You'll find many quaint shops, antique and jewelry stores, an art gallery, womens' and mens' clothing, gardening items and more. There are some great restaurants. Several of my favorites are: Awful Annie's, Cafe Delicias, Bootlegger's and Latitudes. As you stroll along the sidewalks, look up! The Placer County Courthouse is lovely inside and out. Be sure to check out the museum there. Give yourself time to explore the surrounding area too, including downtown Auburn, the Auburn Foresthill Bridge via I-80 at the Auburn Ravine-Foresthill exit east of Old Town, and the American River Canyon via Hwy 49 South. Just twenty miles from Auburn is Coloma, also via Hwy 49 South. It's the place where Marshall first discovered gold in "them thar hills"!
