We did not have reservations and were looking for a hotel with vacancy. As we drove north on H101, we stopped at several places that were overpriced or had no vacancy. We were directed to the Best Western from the Hampton Inn (that had no vacancy). We called the Best Western and they had one room left (their executive suite). We asked that they reserve it and that we would be there in 10 minutes. They held the room for us (without credit card) and welcomed us when we got there. The room was nice and clean. We had a good continential breakfast in the morning.

In 40 years of world travel, we have never been treated so rudely as at this place. After bungling our reservation, rudely handling use of the (otherwise excellent, off site) exercise facility, closing the breakfast bar early and failing to have a room phone that worked, I was physically abused and threatened by a hotel employee, laughed at by the supervisor when reporting this misconduct, then deliberately locked out of our room.
It was an astounding level of unprofessional management and total lack of hospitality.
Apparently there just isn't much competition in the hotel industry in the Atascadero area. Suggest you stay in Paso robles or San Luis Obispo.

I rate this excellent in comparison to similiar hotels. Large, quiet, clean, well lighted room w/ mini-fridge. Hotel has good sized outdoor pool - good for families. For serious swimmers, the next-door fitness center has two pools - an indoor one & an outdoor Olympic-size pool.

Friendly staff. Quiet, clean rooms. Free internet in lobby, reasonable price. I'll be back.
