I live nearby and my favorite thing to do here is to walk my dog(s) around the small lake, it's about a one mile walk. People I encounter are always friendly. The City has cut poop bags out of the budget, so please bring your own and clean up after your own dog.
During the summer you can rent paddle boats. I see people fishing here, but I don't think you'd want to eat anything out of this water. There are various water fowl that you can watch and/or feed (ducks, geese, coots, and a swan. Sometimes the white pelicans will come in.
In the park area, there is a sand volleyball court, horse shoes, picnic areas w/ bbq's, and a playground w/ both a toddler and older kid climbing structure. I always feel like the sand is a little dirty here, but the kids always seem to be having fun.
