“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

We got a better rate by phoning direct, rather than using the internet rate. It was very reasonable for a Best Western. Stayed 2 nights(Thursday and Friday). Liked the overall architectural design a lot. Very much Spanish hacienda on a grand scale style. Room medium sized. Shower and commode portion of bathroom rather small, but the sink was in the bedroom with a nice, large counter area and mirror. Good working refrig and micro wave and coffee maker. We like those things. Windows could use washing and the bathroom fan was ultra loud. Wi fi connection worked great. Breakfast was the usual, with the high lite being the waffle machine - where you make your own. It's fun!

We like a lodging a bit away from downtown areas, so this was good. Just 2 miles from the beach. Easy drive, but if you walk - as we always do - there is a fair sized uphill greeting your walk.

Next time up here - we will stay at this same joint.

Nice and clean and that's what counts. A bit of noise from the freeway but will only bother very light sleepers, the noise is distant...a little worse in the morning as traffic picks up, steady buzz. King room was on the smallish side. Bed and desk and a bit of counter space, drawers, but no table to sit and snack or any extra room like that. Bathroom was a walk-in shower, large tub size but no tub, there was a sitting area at the far end if you were bathing a child I suppose. Good hot water and nice high shower nozzle for tall men. In a small room with the toilet, outside was the sink and counter. No door from the sink/shaving/toothbrushing area to the room. One of those old courtyard-style motor inns with what seems to be a zillion rooms, has obviously been renovated every few years for a zillion years, floors creak etc. , this particular room had a small fridge but not all of them do. New coffeemaker and strong hair dryer. Bed in this particular room was terrible, there was a "mattress pad" about 2 inches thick on top of the probably-old mattress, it was very uncomfortable like sleeping in and out of a valley all night as you tossed and turned. (room 306- avoid ). Stairs only in our section, no elevator, main section over the lobby area has an elevator I believe. Nice pool and garden but TINY breakfast room for such a large motel. Only seating for maybe 20 guests at a time, all competing for the waffle maker and no room for "traffic flow". Hopefully on busy days they open an additional room for breakfast, maybe near the lobby? Cold Cereal, bananas, juices, milk, coffee and those waffles if you want to wait 40 minutes to take your turn. They advertise "fresh baked pastries" but these were store-bought muffins in plastic, and store-bought bagels. All in all definitely not a bad place for the great price they charged (off season rates) but there's no way I'd pay $150 to stay here in the summer unless we really had to. Be sure to try Gerald's "All About Chocolates" for some stellar hand made candy about a mile way, left down Oak Park and then right on Grand, go 1 block on the right near Orcutt Burgers (which was pretty good, too!)

Room Tip: 1st floor you'll hear cars parking in front of you and unloading all night.

I got this hotel through Priceline - after purchase, I found that the room is a king bed smoking room. I called back the Priceline and let him know that I am travelling with my grown up son, that I need 2 beds. They faxed the request, and the hotel changed the room for us. Piceline may work if you don't care about the beds, location or smoking - I end up saving less than $20, not worth it at all!

I had a big problem with a receptionist twho made a big deal about changing a room as a favor - start lecturing me about Priceline. The next day, assistant manager made me feel much better.
Room is spacious and beds were comfortable. Pillows are fluffy too! There were microwave, mini-frigerator, coffee maker in the room - room and bathroom was clean.
The decor is old spanish style, bit outdated - breakfast was OK. Over all, comfortable stay.

We stop here every time we visit our son and daughter-in-law. We have only had one unpleasant incident with a young lady working behind the counter - she gave me the wrong person's bill and then insisted she was correct and I was wrong. She was very rude. However, we've stayed here many times and the overall service has been good and the large rooms always clean.

this was our last stop on California Coastal trip and the best hotel by far. We only paid $89 on a Friday night for a king bed. It was clean and had a great pool. No bed bugs!

My daughter and I and her three children (4, 7, and 10) booked a suite for three nights and were pleasantly surprised at the spacious (and clean) accommodations for a super price (weekdays). With a King bed, a Queen bed, and a sofa, there was plenty of room to spread out. With a TV in each room, the kids had plenty of options for being entertained when we were in the room. Two sinks eased "getting ready" in the morning. We had a microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker. Internet access worked fine. The lobby of the hotel was a show piece, and the grounds were beautifully landscaped. We were close to restaurants and shopping for picking up items we needed, and it was less than a 10-minute drive to the Pismo Beach Pier. Our only suggestion would be a more spacious serving area for the breakfast and perhaps two waffle irons to accommodate the long line that we usually found. The staff was pleasant and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again!

My daughter and I love this place! First, the rooms are super clean; in fact the first time we stayed here my daughter was surprised I didn't warn her not to touch the bedspread like I do in cheaper motels. The Inn has actually changed their bed covers recently to include a clean sheet covering with a decorative runner like you see in boutique hotels - which makes the room feel more elegant and clean. Second, we love the pool and hot tub - great place to hang out during the day or evening. Third, they serve a great continental breakfast that now even includes waffles - but make sure you get there early if you are staying during the weekend or busy summer! If not, the line for the waffle maker can be long, but they are yummy. Fourth, all the employees are super friendly and helpful. Fifth, we love the Pismo Beach area and enjoy exploring Arroyo Grande and the other beach towns - the location is great for a home base for day trips north or south.
