“Safest motel in the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

The Arcata/Eureka area isn't a great location to be/stay in general, but if you find yourself needing a place to stay along your travel route, as we did, this motel seemed to be the safest on its street. It is nothing fancy, but it is evident that it is under new ownership and they are trying to make the best of an old building.

The front office staff (a young gentleman) was helpful and pleasant. Our second floor 2 queen beds room was clean. The bathroom fan was inefficient and unpleasantly/excessively loud (I am sure the new management will see that it is replaced) and whenever anyone walked by on the outer walkway, the room shook and it felt like the outside people were walking in our room. The breakfast was adequate.

I wasn't happy with the surrounding neighborhood, but this motel makes the best of what they have and we/our car were safe while we stayed overnight here.

Thank you, SLPlovesPE42, for leaving your review. It is quite gratifying to know you felt safe staying with us. We are proud of our staff and the way they go beyond their job description to make the hotel safe, clean, and comfortable. We regret the fan was too loud for you, however. Upgrading an older building takes time but upgrades are consistently being accomplished. We are presently replacing all of the outdoor lights with brighter ones and adding more lighting at the drive. The new lights should add even more to the feeling of safety you experienced. We hope to see you again should you find yourself in the area.

No issues with the Days Inn. We paid like 90 bucks for a queen bed room.
Room: very clean. Pillow were TERRIBLE - you might have to fight your significant other for them (we got x3 pillow that were like, half the size of regular pillows?). Bed reasonably comfy. Nice new big flat screen TV. Microwave & mini fridge quite handy. It's a bit tired in parts but had been painted recently, which helped.
Breakfast: Fine, nothing fancy - toast, bagels, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, waffle maker (cool!), coffee, oatmeal, juice.
Service: Actually very good - the front desk lady was very friendly.

Overall: If you're on the road checking out the Redwoods parks (as we were), it's a great option! The Motel 6 next door looked down right scary, but the Days Inn is a solid budget option. It's also literally across the road from a McDonald's, Subway, Grocery store, etc. - and close to the highway - so very handy. There are a few shady characters about at the other motels in the area, but the Days Inn felt fine/safe.

The rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. Felt homey. People at the desk were very friendly and accommodating. It was quiet and comfortable for us. The continental breakfast served in the morning was very well presented with a variety of things to choose from and nice inviting tables to eat from. Pool and jacuzzi were very clean too! I would definitely come back to this place. Very cheery and comfortable!
