Finally! A decent place to stay in Arcata!! There are limited places to stay in this area (we normally recommend the Holiday Inn Express near the airport in Mckinleyville, the Carter House Inn in Eureka or a B&B in Trinidad). So glad they opened this hotel in Arcata!
This is a casual Hilton property, but a more upscale and new Hampton Inn. The entire hotel (grounds, lobby, pool area, gym and rooms) are immaculately clean and well appointed. The breakfast area, with painted mural, is impressive and comfortable. Front desk service was helpful and professional.
The King Suite is VERY spacious with a sitting area, large bathroom, separate wet bar area, 42" flat screen tv, desk, and two large windows. If you stay on the first floor, you can open the windows all the way. On second floor and up, you can only open the windows a couple inches.
Average free breakfast (continental-type selection), but very clean food area and very nice dining room. (For breakfast, I recommend Cafe Brio at the Arcata Plaza for great coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice and people watching. You can get a hearty breakfast at Chalet House of Omelettes in Eureka [eggs benedict or steel cut oats] or the Seascape restaurant at the Trinidad Pier [yummy huckleberry pancakes and great locale]. Los Bagels in Arcata is also good [jalapeno bagel topped with sundried tomato-cream cheese, shredded carrots and Larrapin sauce]. For dinner, Sushi Spot in Arcata, The Other Place in Arcata or Moonstone Grill in Trinidad.)
The only negatives about this hotel- location is conveniently off the freeway, but in a non-descript area of inferior motels. No good views. Next to small shopping area with grocery store and fast food. There is a good hole-in-the-wall Greek cafe in the shopping center (next to radio shack) if you like Gyros and good baklava.
