Great place to get away from it all without much of a drive (from neighboring Santa Cruz or Bay area). Lovely rooms, beautiful walks within the old farm property. Wonderful inn keeper!
Breakfast was delicious!!

I recently visited this place with my boyfriend. We had a perfect time. We were looking for a quiet, relaxing place to get away for a night that was relatively close to San Francisco, and we felt like we struck gold with this B&B near Santa Cruz.

The owner, Kris, could not have been more accommodating. First of all, because this was the low season, she agreed to waive the two-night minimum stay requirement. Then, I asked her to help me surprise my boyfriend with a surprise in the room. I requested a very specific dessert that I thought she would never find, and a bottle of champagne, and wow did she deliver--even though I made the request just a day in advance. When we arrived, the dessert and champagne were arranged beautifully on the table in our room. And she charged only $20 for the whole surprise! Finally, again probably because it was the low season, and because she knew we arrived pretty late the night before, Kris offered to push back our breakfast and check-out time significantly.

Now about the place itself. The room we stayed in, the Honeycomb, was delightful. We loved the seating area and comfortable bed, but the highlight was the private jacuzzi! Plus, the whole place is sooo nice and quiet due to its secluded location away from the highway. In the morning, the dining room was elegantly set up with coffee and juice, and Kris served us the most delicious breakfast of french toast and sausage.

When you come here, make sure you take a walk around the grounds. People rent this place for weddings, and we quickly found out why: it's surrounded by awesome gardens, fountains, and a cool outdoor stage and reception area. We spent a good hour just walking around and exploring.

As we were leaving, Kris recommended that we check out Aptos's beach, called Seacliff State Beach, rather than head to Santa Cruz. We were very happy we did. Seacliff is more beautiful than Santa Cruz (in my opinion) but somehow much less crowded! And the cement ship was very cool.

We will definitely be back to the Sand Rock Farm!

We were looking for a last-minute B&B getaway for Valentine's Day weekend, and were having trouble finding a place near Moss Landing, where we planned to kayak on Sunday morning. Thankfully, Kris accommodated our request for only one night (most places, including this one, usually require a two night minimum for this popular weekend), and we were able to experience the Sand Rock Farm.

The room (we stayed in the Hidden Garden Suite) was immaculate, and the breakfast was delicious. It was a little less luxurious than we had anticipated (the robes looked much more plush online; they were thin and a different material, but we still enjoyed them), but it made up for it with that quaint old farmhouse feel. We had planned on using the hot tub, which looked great, but after the delicious dinner (Kris made a reservation for us at Cafe Sparrow) we were too stuffed to do anything but watch the Olympics and crash on the couch. The bed was very comfortable, and overall, the room was great. There were even fresh flowers (and rosemary sprigs, which I thought was a nice touch) in our room when we arrived.

We wandered around the grounds a bit, which were quite lovely. I'm sure they are gorgeous in the spring time when the flowers are all blooming, but we enjoyed the trees and fountains even though much of the gardens were still in winter-mode. The whole place is obviously well taken care of.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks to Kris for making our little 24 hour getaway so lovely!

We needed a quiet night away from home and we found the perfect place to spend it. The home and the location are both gorgeous. I give the location an excellent rating because it was just what we wanted: a quiet spot in the woods, and in that regard it was just right. The home is extremely warm and inviting. You can feel the history as soon as you pull up and even more when you walk in. The house is immaculately maintained. The owner made an excellent breakfast, told us a lot about the history of the property, and was very helpful about where to go in the area. She also gave us an excellent suggestion for a place to eat on our drive home. We look forward to our next trip here.

My husband recently brought me to Sand Rock Farm for a quiet, relaxing weekend away from the City and it was absolutely perfect! The historic home is cozy and beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous, and the proprieter, Kris, was so welcoming and helpful -- she made amazing breakfasts and provided us with great recommendations to fill our weekend, including restaurants, wine tasting, antiquing and local sites. The rooms were the perfect combination of quant and comfortable, but with all the amenities (including in-room jacuzzis!).

We spent Sunday morning walking around the property and if I hadn't already had my wedding, I would look into having it here. The property is beautiful -- gardens and trees galore, with lighting and open areas for ceremony, dinner and dancing.

We had the most lovely weekend at Sand Rock Farm and I can't wait to go back!!

I visited Sand Rock Farms with a girlfriend to get away from responsibilities for the weekend. It was above and beyond what I expected. The proprietor is a gem and she took very good care of us. We loved our room and the quiet atmosphere. We were very close to the ocean, redwood forest and the best restaurants. Kris scheduled a wine tour including lunch for the 2 of us that was so special. The wineries were family owned with good wine and beautiful country to enjoy every moment. Monterey Bay is only 1/2 hour away to enjoy the aquarium and fun shopping and eating. We can hardly wait to go back!

We chose to have our elopement ceremony at Sand Rock Farm. Our dog came to bear witness, since we couldn't find a bear. We arrived the afternoon before and were shown around the house and property.

The house has an antique decor, and everything is fresh and well-kept. The main floor is the communal area with the kitchen, dining room, living room, and very comfortable sun-room with lots of reading material. Upstairs are a few large guest-rooms with large hot-tubs. Downstairs are 2 large guest-rooms with an outdoor hot-tub available. We stayed downstairs in the largest room of the house. Each room has an electric fireplace, and even our large room was able to be kept warm.

Outside, we explored the redwood grove, the old wine cellar, and the gardens. There's a landscaped garden right outside the house, with benches and trees, and a vegetable garden on the hill above the house. We expressed an interest in raspberries, so Kris, the owner, asked if we'd like to have some raspberry plants. We took a few, and she tended them 'til we left.

Breakfasts were delicious. During our stay we enjoyed Kris' cooking: sliced cantaloupe covered in fresh berries, chicken and apple sausage, warm cinnamon buns, goat-cheese souffle, and a walnut pastry.

As one can personalize almost every aspect of their wedding ceremony, all I can say is that ours was really nice. We kept it simple and took Kris' suggestions on the officiant and photographer. We had a quick ceremony in the redwood grove and went all around the picturesque property to have our photos taken. Kris got us a cake from The Buttery and added her own touches to make it fit for the occasion.

Kris was very helpful in helping us arrange dinner plans. She had brochures and menus on hand from every restaurant in town and possessed a wealth of local knowledge. She called Shadowbrook restaurant and made sure they treated us well.

I'll finish this review with our impression of the owner, Kris. When you visit Sand Rock Farm, you have to understand that it isn't a hotel. It's a home which Kris takes a lot of pride in. When we first met her, she didn't act obsequious like a typical hotel clerk. She was professional and matter-of-fact. We got more acquainted during breakfast and she showed herself to be a caring and genuine person. Throughout our stay we felt like we had plenty of privacy, and Kris was always available to answer questions or give suggestions. By the end of our stay it felt like we'd made a new friend.
