My family (husband and children 5 and 7) and I just returned from a stay at Seascape Resort. We all had such a great time I needed to post a review. We normally rent a vacation home in this area, but this year stayed here.

The location could not be beat. The resort is quite large and rooms vary from studio to 2 bedroom villas. Buildings are spread out across the property so we did not feel crowded. Our family stayed a 1 bedroom ocean view suite. It was very spacious and we never felt crowded. This is very important to us traveling with kids that do not like to be couped up. The view was spectacular! Even the morning fog was beautiful. The room itself was clean and have every amenity we needed and more.

The staff was extremely pleasant. The went out of their way to help us. When we stopped to ask for information about the on site park and playground, the staff member was so nice and even drove us there on the golf cart. It wasn't that far, but he insisted. The kids thought that was great. The carts will take you anywhere in the resort, even down to the beach.

Sanderlings, the restaurant on site, had exceptional food and beautiful ocean views. The menu and wine list ware impressive. Service there was VERY attentive. They were so friendly to the kids and the Kids Meals came in little pails and shovels. I can say that that combination of fine dining and kid friendly was a hit with us!!!

And the beach, oh it was great. Quite and relaxing. No huge crowds and plenty of sand and surf to enjoy. And this is in the middle of July! There was lots of safe clean beach to explore and play on. It is a nice walk down from the main part of the hotel. We never took the golf carts down, it was such a nice walk, we wanted to enjoy it.

And the pools (there 3). We only spent a little time at the one closest to the lobby. Heated and fun. We didn't take advantage of the tennis, sports club (included in the resort fee) or spa. We were too busy at the beach. What could have made it better? A couple more days....

Overall a fantastic stay. We all want to come back.

“Don't understand the bad reviews”

my husband and I just returned from a 3 night stay at Seascape. We are regulars at this hotel, we usually go without the kids, but this time we took our 3 boys (ages 1, 2 and 6) for a little family escape. We had a WONDERFUL stay! In my opinion, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Most of the staff went out of their way to talk to our children and ask if they were having fun, make small talk with them. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite in the main building and it was very clean, nicely decorated and spacious. Room service was speedy and efficient, they did a great job cleaning our room....really had no complaints.
We spent one afternoon in the heated pool (which was clean and nice and warm) with our kids and they had a ball! There is a bar near the pool and they give you plastic cups to have in the pool area - they even had a waitress coming around to take our orders.
You can call for a golf cart to come pick you up from your room and take you down to the beach, and then call for them to come take you back up.
My husband and I have been coming here for 7 years, we usually stay in the ocean-view studios which have always been very clean and well decorated with awesome views.
We had an amazing stay and couldn't complain about antying. For $331 a night, this is a deal - and although I agree it's not a true resort, it is a beautiful hotel with great ammenities, a wonderful restaurant, stunning landscape and great staff, would recommend this place to everyone!

Just got back from stying here... The weird thing is that the only nice people I ever dealt with at the resort was the golf-cart guys, nice people. However the people in the lobby always look like they would rather be some where else and never even greet you with a smile. One other thing is don't even want to use the hot tub after 10PM, they close all but one of there hot-tubs at the place and there are always 15-20 people waiting to use it. I would say the place and the people who work there make it more of a high-priced hotel... I never saw an ounce of Resort while I was there.

Would not recommend for ther price.

I have just (finally) checked into the Seascape for a conference after a long trip from the east coast. The reservation was made through a professional organization and I was pleasantly surprised to get a email from the resort about a week before my asking for any dietary or accomodation requests. Since I have never been to this part of California, I requested a room on a top floor so I could appreciate the Pacific Ocean. Apparently, this request was never paid any attention. My group and I arrived early and understandably, the rooms were not ready. I again, repeated my request for any room on a high floor. We were asked to leave a phone number and told we would be called when the rooms were ready. I never received a phone call. After all members of my group got their rooms (might I add, some on the highest floor) I was left waiting in the lobby. I was told just 30 minutes more. After 40 minutes, I went again to the desk to be told my room was still not ready and that it was on the first floor. Despite emails and an early request, I saw many guests given high rooms while I waited for a first floor. Many guests use the walkway right outside the bedoom window--just the noise I was trying to avoid. I understand that a request is just that and not a guarantee, but I have always found hotel front desks to try to accomodate a request when a guest gives them plenty of time by checking in early and then waiting for them to assign a requested area.

If the remainder of my stay improves, I will post another review, but for right now, I am sorely disappointed with the reservations and check in procedures.

“Seascape is a Conference Center *not* a Resort”

Seascape Resort

I have stayed at Seascape 10-12 times, most recently about a week ago. I have never thought to review the place because frankly I just do not think of it as a typical "vacation spot". I see the other TA reviews are very mixed and I think the reason why is because Seascape bills itself as a resort and it is not. It is a corporate retreat and conference center. That is where they get the bulk of their business and that is who they cater to. I actually really like the place and have used it for both a retreat venue and for weekends with the kids. That being said, I will start with the negatives. Firstly, if you are coming from another part of the country and looking for that Northern California "beach experience" this is not the place for you. Keep driving south. If you are visiting the SF Bay Area for a week or so and want to see the Monterey Bay area for 1-2 days...this is absolutely not the hotel for you. You need to stay in Monterey (if you have kids) or Carmel (if you do not). Seascape is still a long drive to Monterey and Carmel. The weather at Seascape is often very foggy and windswept. Great for an introspective corporate retreat, not great for vacation. Also, this is not the place to bring teenagers. There is just nothing for them. Lastly, Seascape very much caters to their corporate clients, turning an occasional blind eye (or ear) to their loud, late parties. This is fun when you are in corporate mode, a little frustrating when in family mode.

The accommodations are extremely vanilla 20-30 year old condos and yes, there is a little deferred maintenence here and there but hey, they are on the ocean. All the condos are individually owned so they differ slightly. I've always stayed in the 2 bedroom units out on the lawn in the South building. The kitchens are adequate for breakfast and lunch (plates, cups, a few saucepans) and I suppose you could do a basic dinner. Other TA reviewers have complained about price. The 2 bedrroms are $595 plus tax and a steep daily facility fee which is mandatory. The stratospheric price is because they can get away with it. They basically have only one other corporate retreat site in the area that competes with them. When the weather cooperates (autumn is best ) the setting is stunning but it is rarely warm. Seascape has 3 small pools, all unheated. Lastly, Seascape is used for "family weekend retreats" by families (mostly Silicon Valley) with young kids who come over the hill after work on Friday, hang out on the beach or by the pool on Saturday, and head home on Sunday. You can quite literally sit in the lobby on Friday afternoon and watch the corporate types checking out and moms with minivans checking in. If you do not like lots of young kids running around, do not stay here Friday-Sunday. The place can be literally swarming with tiny tots. Think 20 kids in the hot tub and you have the idea. The big green lawn is a great place for a game of soccer. The beach out front is long and wide. I have seen dolphins, whales, and plenty of California Sea Lions from the bluffs. It is certainly not the cleanest beach but still quite nice. I should mention here that it is a Dog Beach. Aptos allows dogs to run free on the beach. And there are many, many dogs most with their owners trailing far behind. Just an FYI for those with dog-phobias or with small kids who do not like dogs. I like the Mexican food restaurant across the street better than the one on the property. Same view, better food. In summary, Seascape functions in retreat mode well. If that is your use and your expectation you will be satisfied.
