“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

We stayed here in April 2011 in a 1 bedroom partial view suite. Unlike other resorts where partial view means that if you lean far enough over the balcony, you can see the ocean, here there were a couple of beautiful trees between us and the ocean. The trees actually made for beautiful sunset pictures.

The room was very clean and spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the hide-a-bed was good even for an almost 6 ft teenager. The kitchenette was older but well stocked with a bar size fridge, microwave, 2 burner stove, dishwasher and full sized coffee maker with a supply of decent coffee. There were even wine glasses, salt and pepper and a candle for the balcony table. We had a corner unit with a large window as well as patio doors. There was some noise between floors and the units are set up with two entrances side by side which are beside the bedroom. Not a big deal, unless you have the inconsiderate neighbors we were blessed with on the weekend. The hotel does sell a lot of discounted rooms on the weekends and we ended up between two groups that were together and they seemed to feel that no one else in the hotel mattered. To the hotels credit, we booked way in advance and were given one of the best rooms in our price category, I also took the time to phone the hotel to let them know what was important to us.

The pathway to the beach was a beautiful walk so we never bothered with the golf cart service. With the amazing view from the balcony and well stocked kitchenette, we didn’t dine in the restaurant. The little store across the road was well stocked and had really good muffins and deli sandwiches.

We went to Santa Cruz several days and the road was often congested, in the summer it is probably very slow going. In Santa Cruz, our son took surfing lessons from Dylan (owner of Santa Cruz Surf School) who was amazing. He also went on the zip line tour at Mount Hermon which was great. Unless you have the urge for a serious tacky tourist adventure (we did) you might want to skip “The Mystery Spot.”

Room Tip: Take the time to phone the hotel and let them know what is important to you.

You can't go wrong at Seascape. We have stayed several times, and every time the service is outstanding, the views, the grounds, the beach.....all of it is just what you picture a california beach vacation to be all about! They have a golf cart beach shuttle service, so you can even be lazy if you want to. Don't miss out on the beach bonfire service! For $50 they will create a bonfire for your party, provide smores, chairs and bottled water. They will even bring food down if you desire. Then when your done, they clean it up pack it all up for you-and give you a ride to your room! The place is perfect for romance or a trip with the kids....we have done both. Also, the rooms come with a kitchen so you can cook in your room if you desire. Love this place & it is our new favorite beach spot!

Room Tip: Room #115 has a great view of the ocean, and is close to the pool/restaurant-perfect for traveling w...

We visited a few months ago and liked it so much, we just returned for a several night stay over the New Year period. This time, we had a 2 bedroom villa on the north bluff. I would have to say that each resort area has it pluses and minuses. The south bluff was very quiet and peaceful. We had a partial ocean view with a partial forest view. It was lovely. We could hear the ocean waves at night and despite it being December, we actually had beautiful beach-worthy weather. The hotel staff are wonderful. The rooms are very spacious and quiet. We didn't hear any neighbors at all. I would agree that the rooms could use some modernization but it won't keep us from returning. They have everything you need; flat-screen TV's (3), DVD players, full kitchen, washer/dryer, access to a beautiful, unspoiled beach, 3 pools/hot tubs, on-site restaurant, restaurants and convenience store within walking distance, etc. We will be back again.

Room Tip: If you can, splurge on an oceanfront or partial ocean view room

A little off the main road in santa cruz area, this well maintained 5 star resort is a must for wonderful stay. On the pricey side, but worth it. Restaurant is top notch.

Room Tip: select upper floors for great ocean views

My family lives in the Seascape area and I have never stayed at the resort. When we visit we do spend a lot of time at the resort. The setting is real California and spectacular. Access to one of the world's great beaches is right there and you can walk forever on an uncrowded beach. We often eat at the Sanderlings restaurant where we find formal and relaxed dining and a very good menu. Expect to pay $100 for a fine dinner with a drink and wine for two. On Fridays and Saturday there is a $19.99 roast beef dinner special. Our special treat is to walk on the beach and have a martini on the patio at sunset. The resort is not run down but does need attention. There is a nice little park adjacent to the resort where my wife and I go to read.

Take time to visit the little shopping center across the street from the resort. The deli is pricey but has everything. My wife shops at the clothing store at the shopping center. There is also a Mexican restaurant where we have margaritas on the porch. Buy a pitcher of margaritas. A great place to watch the sunset.

Seascape in Aptos is really an amazing place with a view of Monterey Bay that's nothing short of spectacular. The hotel is sprawled over three separate bluffs overlooking the beach on Monterey Bay with the main building housing the lobby, Sanderlings Restaurant and bar and an assortment of meeting rooms upstairs. The rooms attached to the main building range from one room efficiency suites on upper floors (best views in this building) to one bedroom suites below. On the other two bluffs the rooms are all suites, some of them with multiple floors. The north bluff houses units with the most spectacular views of the beach and ocean. I highly recommend suites 56 and 57 as well as 71 for their views. The food at Sanderlings is really quite good and they are famous for their Seafood Chowder so give it a try.

We have stayed at the resort off and on from it's beginning when it only had the main building and we've watched it's growth to present day size as frequent visitors. The view is fabulous and the staff almost always impeccable. Weekdays can be slammed with business groups having conferences at the resort but most of their events take place upstairs in the main building. Weekends are family time at Seascape and you will see and hear LOTS of family activity with children children children everywhere.

All this being said the largest fault with Seascape is the poor maintenance in the rooms. The appliances in the kitchens are just getting old and worn out and things like screen doors or locks on sliding glass doors or windows just don't work or are broken. All too often the blinds in sliding glass door are also broken ... and since the resort has no a/c you use the blinds quite a bit to kill the sun on hot days.

Be ready for fog .. lots of it in summer months. The most reliable time to find blue skies and 80 degrees in Aptos is September and October.

We love the resort and keep coming back ... we're used to the dings and dents in the rooms ... the view and location are worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for 56 or 57 ... avoid the main building and southern bluff if you want the best views ask for t...

I've lived in the SF Bay Area my whole life and didn't know this place existed. Definitely a relaxing getaway close to home - beach, jacuzzi, outdoor firepits, fireplace, kitchen, and large room, what's not to like? The restaurant could use a bit of an update for healthier choices and the bathrooms are relatively small but this wouldn't stop us from returning.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, upper floor away from the elevator and ice machine.
