We had some class 3 rapids. A beautiful sunny day, a very capable guide and we did not fall out in the very cold water. Having forgone the wet suits which would have been too warm in the sunshine, but needed for being the water, we were pleased to be in our quick dry clothes and not wet suits....but only if we were not falling in the rapids. Our guide, Casey informed us the south fork American river is controlled by a dam and is usually like what we experienced. There was the fun of the rapids, but we felt safe following our guides safety instructions and maneuvering over the rapids. If we had done the full day, a wet suit would have been needed for the AM but the sunshine was enough for the afternoon. Lunch was at their base camp on picnic tables. We entered the river there and were carried back by bus when we completed the trip. A drink is provided at the bus, but bring your own water for the raft. I would go on a class 3 and 4 another time with Casey. Bring an old pair of glasses for the trip, in case you do fall out and loose them in the rapids.
