I haven's stayed here in over 10 years, I always opt for either the Grand Cal or the Paradise, so thought I'd try this again since it was my "Little" cousin's 21st, and the hotel just had to be the original. Aside from draining your pockets, the really outdated building, old smell, cramped dark hallways, carpet nails coming through, worn furniture, wallpaper peeling, blah, blah...it's not too bad, with a super view from our room 2841.
We got there on wed morning (for 3 nights), and were greeting very nicely. Since it was in the middle of the week I was hoping they would have a room ready and yup! we got our room, dropped off our stuff and headed to the park.
Thay had said that there would be some noise due to construction, but we heard "nada".
I've attached some pics for those who like to see what a certain room number looks like. Definately open the window, and watch the fireworks!
My only thing was the parking! Man, could it be worse? even now after the trip I'm still not sure if someone was to ask. We went through Valet section twice (confused), drove around and parked in the registration area parking. Then when we got out of that area, the driveway only goes one way, so back through the valet again, and around and we first tried the hotel guest parking up the ramp, card never worked, so I broke the rules, backed up quickly and went into the flat general guest parking. Finally we found a parking waaaayy out at the other end. A long, walk that made me hope we didn't forget anything.
Room service gets two thumbs up! Avocado though, gets a thumb down.
Overall I honestly rate it at about the same level as the Paradise Pier (easier Parking), but I like it once in a while when the price is right.
