“Nice hotel but a good distance away from the parks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights on March 6 and 7th before going on to Hawaii. The Disney hotels in California are pricey (more expensive for what you get at Disneyworld in Florida) but decided to try the Disneyland Hotel as we were celebrating my daughter's graduation from law school. I booked a regular view room and used the AAA rate which is a little less than the regular rate. It takes some patience to get the AAA rate because they never post it. You have to ask for it specifically when you call Disneyland reservations and sometimes it is not available. We flew into Orange County and used Mickey's Space Shuttle to pick us up and also drove us over to LAX when we left. Their prices are good and I would recommend this service. We had no problems checking in a little before 3 but with the regular view I had requested, we were given a room in the Frontier Tower. This tower is in the back of the resort so it requires a longer hike to everything. I wasn't thinking or I would have requested a room in one of the other 2 towers as they are closer to Downtown Disney and probably had a better view. Ours was of the parking lot. Otherwise the room was very nice, newly refurbished and comfortable plush beds. The theming in the room was very nice with a special light display above the beds. The bathroom was small but also nicely refurbished. No complaints about the room itself. We ate 2 breakfasts while there and both were fine. The Tangaroa Terrace was less expensive then the Steakhouse 55. The pools looked really nicely themed but it was too cold for us to swim. (although there were some snowbirds swimming!) It is quite a hike to the parks through Downtown Disney. I have mobility issues so I had to stop several times. But there are multiple shops and restaurants scattered throughout so it gives you choices on where to eat and to shop. In summary, I would say, for the price, I probably will pass on this one again but it was fun to experience it once.

Room Tip: The Frontier Tower is the farthest away. Ask for one of the other towers.

We stayed 3 nights at the Disneyland hotel in the Fantasy tower. Pros: nice pool with tons of hovering lifeguards. Bellcap service was really top notch. Very professional. Fast check- in. Room was very clean - and I'm picky. theming was nice in the lobby. room furniture was very good. they gave us a decent view room for free. Cons: Goofys kitchen food was good, but in a 60 minute period only two characters came to our table (dinner). Aurora and Minnie were it, leaving our son feeling left out. Chip and Dale were there as were Aladdin and Pluto but they skipped our area. The water in the hotel shower was not hot at all. It varied depending on time of day, but it was tepid most of the time. With no heat lamp in the bathroom we were forced to crank the room heat to keep from shivering. There were no special surprises like Micky folded towels and we saw no characters in the lobby ever. For $400 a night, I expected a little better from Disney. Give this one a pass.

Room Tip: Ask for one where you can see the fireworks not necessarily the park.

Hotel location is important when visiting Disneyland. Right at the end of Downtown Disney the hotel is a quick walk to the parks. Downtown Disney offers shops and dining so you have more options along the way to the park. It is a safe trek from the park to the hotel so families with teens can feel pretty comfortable letting them stay late at the park and walk back to the hotel on their own. The hotel pool is large and comfortable when you need a break. The hotel staff are very helpful, friendly and accommodating. The rooms are comfortable and spacious enough for the family.

Room Tip: Request a fireworks or pool view.

We spent 5 nights at the Disneyland Hotel this past March. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. There really is something magical about Disney and this hotel carries the magic throughout their hotel. Customer service is top notch and everyone seems to really enjoy working there. This hotel is at the beginning of Downtown Disney, which was great when by the end of the day our son who is 6 years old, got tired, it was a short 10 minute walk back to our sanctuary... i don't think i would have enjoyed grabbing a shuttle back to a hotel when all you want to do is get back to your room ... fast. the location is superb as well for catching the fireworks. we stayed in a club level, downtown disney view room which was perfect for watching the fireworks in your room. you can turn the TV on to a special channel and listen to the actual firework script that they give in the park... our family of 4 enjoyed turning off the lights and settling in for a special, quiet and incredible fireworks show in the comfort of our room. the only drawback to this side is that there is loud live music (band) that plays below the hotel and they don't shut down until 10pm. if you have little one's that can't sleep with any sort of noise, then perhaps the pool view room would be better. The club level lounge was great for a quick bfast in the morning. we didn't want to spend time going to a restaurant... we wanted to get to the park quick!
the food was continental. nothing hot, which in my opinion wouldn't have hurt and i really would have liked to see. some bacon, or eggs would be nice. also, the oatmeal they offered were in Quaker single serve packages where you just pour hot water in and let it sit.... some prepared oatmeal in a crock pot would be an easy thing to do and for the money you pay for club level, not a huge additional cost for them. The beds in our room could use updating. they were just ok. the interior was very nice and we really liked the whimsical touches - pictures of Walt Disney and cute bedtime cards with chocolates for the kids. the headboard lights up and plays if you wish upon a star which our kids played each night before bed.
the pool was very very nice. waterslides and 3 pools if you want to just swim.
a memorable trip and one that was made more special because of the Disneyland Hotel

Room Tip: downtown disney view,

We stayed here for 3 nights before moving to another hotel. It was a special birthday treat to stay here and we really enjoyed it. To be honest the rooms and hotel are the same as any nice hotel that you'd stay in, but it's the Disney touches that make it special. The furnishings with the Mickey heads are cute and the headboard that lit up and play music was just magical for my daughter and she loved the way her toys were arranged each time we came back to our room.
We didn't swim in the pool because it was too cold but it looked gorgeous.
The hotel was clean and there were plenty of restaurants and shops so we had everything we needed. It's a further walk from Disneyland than some of the off site hotels but if you can afford it, the pure Disney magic of this hotel is well worth experiencing.....even if it was just for a few nights.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Frontier tower and could see fireworks from our window

You can't beat the location of this hotel. Our room overlooked Downtown Disney in the Adventure Tower. We walked from the lobby to the parks in 5-10 minutes past restaurants and shops. Then you could turn left to enter Disneyland or right to enter CA Adventure. We hopped from one park to the other. We were in both 2 times in one day to see shows etc.Literally a 5 min walk from one entrance to the other. We LOVED the World of Color show at CA AD, Get your fastpass to it in the morning to have a great viewing spot that night. The lines for rides were long (Sunday) because there were tons of cheerleaders there competing. That made it tough to see it all but with the extended hours, we did well. Not sure if this is usualy the case. The hotel was recently redone and the rooms are lovely. The light up head board was a cute touch. Thought the charachter breakfast was overpriced. Only could order off the menu at the Grand Californian Hotel character breakfast. If you order breakfast from room service, know you get a huge stack of pancakes or french toast that could easily be shared between two people. Was surprised at the lack of "Disney" stuff everywhere in the lobby. Used to WDW where it is everywhere. You almost have to go looking for it which was interesting. Highly recommend this hotel.Super Shuttle picked us up in LA at the airport and dropped us off at the door.Enterprise picked us up to take us to get a rental for the rest of our trip. Saved the parking charges and the need to find it late at night after a long flight,

Room Tip: Loved the Adventure Tower.

The convenience of the hotel to the Theme park is naturally something a family would consider. Great location and walking distance to Disneyland! The services were personalized and very well integrated for less hassle. The service staffs were helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms were old but well-furnished and properly maintained. The sound proofing for the toilet ought to be improved as I could hear people talking in the adjacent toilet from another room. The decorations are fabulous and the bed is soft and comfortable. The price is worth if you have a family of kids or elderly. Although there are not really much shopping and restaurant food around. Sometimes we would need to wait pretty long for a taxi to arrive; perhaps it would be good to have shuttle services to the popular areas around Anaheim? The hotel is too quiet and boring at times, I would actually expect some form of fascination or fantasy going on at the lobby. Well just like what your name implies the Disneyland hotel. Felt that there is not much expect of fun and laughter in the hotel. Other than that, I would still recommend families to stay here.

Room Tip: Get the rooms further away from the lift and having the view to the theme park. You will be able to...
