“A Stay Makes Everything More Magical”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed four nights in the refurbished Disneyland Hotel in December of both 2011 and 2012 (in the Frontier and Adventure Towers, respectively). Obviously, our stay in 2011 was enough to bring us back again in 2012. Upon check-in this year, we were offered a truly magical experience...two tickets to the Candlelight Processional. Not being familiar with it, we turned it down. We were floored when we walked into Disneyland that night to a chorus of hundreds singing Christmas carols complete with a full band (with trumpeters dressed as angels atop Main Street Station) and immediately regretted not taking them up on an offer for the seated section. When we asked if we could get tickets for the next night, we found out that the tickets had sold out in October. We really did miss a once in a lifetime Disneyland offer of a very magical moment. If the hotel offers you something, say yes!

Both the Frontier and Adventure towers have beautiful lobbies with models of the big rides from that land. The Adventure tower is closer to Downtown Disney so you do shave off a small bit of walking by staying there. It also has an exit that is extremely close to the pool entrance...perfect in December when you are running to the jacuzzi in the cold rain. The pool area is very nice and the jacuzzi is hot, spacious, and has plenty of leg and back jets for massaging away those pains after a long day walking around the parks. It's nice to be able to take a break, come back for a soak and a nap, and then return to to the park refreshed. No waiting for the people mover to take you back to the parking lot. No walking 1.5 miles to your hotel. No packing up the car. Just walking a short distance and being able to relax within 10 minutes of walking out of the park (less if you take the Monorail)!

Of course, the best benefit of staying at the Disneyland Hotel is having early entry every day (Magic Morning) at the parks. This was extremely beneficial for CAP which is newly remodeled and, I hate to say, even more fun than Disneyland. In a MM entry there, we were able to ride the TOT 6 times, California Screamin' 5 times, every ride in Cars Land multiple times (except the racers). The one day we used our Magic Morning to stand in line for Radiator Springs Racers, we only waited for 55 minutes. Five minutes after the park opened, the Fast Pass return time was already between 11:30 and 11:45 PM (yes, one half hour before the park CLOSED!!!). If that ride is a must and you don't want to wait three hours, MM is the only way to go.

Room service at the DH was fast and the late night menu is extensive. We were surprised at how inexpensive the food was, even with the delivery fee. We shared a huge veggie and hummus plate with pita and a Caesar salad with rolls for roughly $20.

The rooms have comfortable beds with pillows that rival those at some of the nicest hotels in the world. In-room safes are spacious. We were able to fit a tablet, a large camera and various lenses, jewelry, wallets, etc. at the same time. Of course, the size did turn out to be a downside when our in-room safe failed on the morning we were leaving in 2011. The electronics board broke, the safe had no alternative way to open it, and three maintenance men couldn't get the wall safe open. The hotel manager actually told us that there was nothing that could be done until the next day (a Monday) at which point they could call a locksmith to CUT OUR GOODS OUT OF THE SAFE! He then recommended that we stay another night, go to the park that day, miss our flights (and with no mention of the hotel compensating us for these extra expenses). Just as my husband was about to lose it, a fourth maintenance man came in and got it open. As the safe was opened and we were able to make our flights, we were happy to return to DH again in 2012. Even the safe issue couldn't keep us away from the magic and benefits of the Disneyland Hotel.

Talk about being treated right. The hotel might cost a few more dollars but the service, convenience and experience is worth every penny! My children are now in their 20's and for Christmas last year we bought them a family vacation to Disneyland. What a great time. 5 days with the Mouse and 1 day at Universal. We all felt like kids again. Even though the kids are grown up we stll did the character breakfast. What a great family getaway... for any age.

Stayed January 13,2013 - January 17. Loved our stay.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. 4 adults and 3 children.

Pros:

Rooms - First bedrrom had 2 queens and a bath which connected to the living room. LR had a pull out queen bed in the couch and a pull out bed under the TV. Second bedroom had a king with a spacious bathroom. Suite also has a large entry way with an area sized perfectly for a crib. We easily slept 7, could have slept another 3 without any problems. Rooms were very quiet. Beds were very soft.

Location - so nice to ride the monerail home each night. We didn't mind the 10 minute walk through Downtown Disney in the morning. Lots of shops and great eating spots in Downtown Disney. Room was close enough and park lines short enough that we didn't mind coming back for naps and to swim. Earl of Sandwich was a great spot for inexpensive sandwhiches. We also had Vons deliver groceries so we could have breakfast and snacks in our room. Highly recommend it.

Pool - The pools were great. We traveled in January and temps were low, so my only complaint is they need to heat the pool more. Had 2 very large hot tubs, 1 huge pool, and 1 smaller pool and several water slides. Slides were a blast - just too cold to enjoy for long periods of time. Disney had 4-5 life guards on duty, little funny given there were usually only 3-4 people in the pool, but nice. Also, free life vests for kids located poolside.

Magic Morning - we were able to enter the DL and CA 1 hour early every day we stayed at the hotel. So Mon - Thurs we were in before most of the park. This was the biggest benefit of staying on site. We loved getting in early. We rode Radiator Springs Racers 2X without waiting in line.

Atmosphere - tough to beat character interactions in your hotel lobby, having the Disney atmosphere in your room and hotel.

Cons

Price - You can stay at some really nice hotels nearby for a fraction of the cost. Of course you miss out on early entry and some other perks. Restuarants are pricey, parking is expensive, rooms are expensive. But you know what you are getting into before you stay, so no complaints. Just something to be mindful of. You can significantly reduce your costs by staying offsite.

Room Fridge- Fride is really small for a sweet.

Overall, we loved our stay at the DL Hotel. Kids (8, 5, 7 months) really loved never having to "leave" Disneyland. Highly recommend and plan on returning again in the future.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a park or DownTown Disney view. If that's important to you, you can pay extr...

Five of us stayed in two connecting rooms for the Neverland 5K this past weekend. It was my first time at the Disneyland Hotel, their first time staying at the park ever. None of us were disappointed. In fact, we all raved about the hotel all weekend. From the time we pulled up to valet parking, it was nothing but stellar service from the valet, bell hops, maids, check-in, shops and restaurants. The rooms were lovely, comfortable and well stocked with towels and toiletries. We loved that the rooms had refrigerators (at no extra cost like some hotels). The hotel is also very well situated, just steps from Downtown Disney. The pool area is very nice. It can be a little pricey, but at the end of the weekend we were so happy we didn't stay someplace else. Will definitely go back!

I just took one my daughters to a surprise trip to Disneyland. She is 14 but this is still her favourite place to go! We stayed in a newly renovated room overlooking downtown Disney with a view of the parks (and therefore the fireworks!) We have stayed in this hotel many times pre and post rennovation - we have also stayed off sight and at the Grand California. $ for $ this is still the best hotel for location and Ambience. I love the california feel on the grounds with the fruit trees still in the gardens and I love the big nod to Mickey etc in the decoration of the rooms. The Grand California made me feel I was at a hotel in Whistler. The service is exceptional in all aspects - from check

We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel for our 5th year wedding anniversary. I had not been to Disneyland since the early 90's and my husband had never been there. What a change to the place! It was great that the hotel was just steps away from the downtown area and then right intot the park. Since are stay was in October some maintenance work was in place on some of the attractions but we were aware of this from visiting tour guide sites before hand and it was really too chilly to be in the water anyway. (We did stick a toe in the pool, and it was supper chilly at night) It was still sad that we had to see the pool slide being worked on....STILLLLLLL... our room was beautiful and the view was excellent. The huge windows let in the sun and we were high enough to get a great view of the area. The check-in process remains the only downside of Disney (Orlando as well) It seems that this is the point where most of the anxiety of getting things settled has become automatic and the staff does not appear to go above or beyond to assist. We did have an issue with the tickets into the park and the team there had to search to confirm our valid entry - they were really nice about it and although it took about 10 minutes to clear up they just kept searching and reassured us that they could resolve the matter and they did - NICE JOB!!!! We have been to every Disney location since we have been married with the exception of Tokyo and will continue, but will continue to be aware to lower our expectations regarding the level of friendliness, resourcefulness and helpfulness of the checkin staff unless there is a change...BEWARE MOUSEKATEERS! Don't plan on being happy until you enter the park....just get to your room - they are always beautiful and clean and try to get the other staff out of your mind as quickly as possible!

Room Tip: Plan to get up early for breakfast because there is a supper huge line to get food. Traveling as an...

Following what we were told was a 1 billion dollar renovation there is only one word to describe this hotel experience - divine!! My mom, my two sons age 11 and 7 and myself stayed here for five wonderful days and when we left my 7-year-old literally sobbed. Our standard view room had an amazing view out over the palm trees toward downtown Disney and we could watch the fireworks in Disneyland Park. When you walk into the reception area the Mary Blair paintings on the walls and the way their colour palette and designs are incorporated into the rugs and furniture is breathtaking. We stayed in the Adventure tower and I would recommend requesting this one as it is the closest to the parks and there are simply no bad views!
The new rooms are gorgeous and although the children threatened me if I turned the music box lamp on one more time, I couldn't help grinning everytime we lit up the fireworks headboards that played that song. LOVED it!!! The rooms are huge, and the optional pull-out sofa bed was a huge hit with the kids. The pools and mono-rail slides are super and we enjoyed eating at the Tarongoa cafe many times. At night sitting out by Trader Sam's outdoor fireplace with drinks is simply heaven.
With my mom along it was appreciated that it is only about 100 metres from the Adventure tower back doors to the Monorail entrance. Perfection.

Room Tip: Just go standard but be sure to ask for the Adventure Tower!
