Rarely have I been so disappointed with a hotel where I stayed. Unfortunately, that is the case with the Peacock Suites. We stayed for two nights during our family vacation to Disneyland. We might have been better off staying at the Haunted Mansion inside the park.
The biggest problem is construction. They have embarked on a remodeling effort with demolition and construction starting between 7:00 and 7:30 both mornings. The pounding was so loud and so violent, it actually created ripples in the water in the toilet. I am all for them trying to upgrade this antiquated hotel, but shut it down for a few months then reopen it. Why in the world would you subject your customers to such a jarring early morning experience that literally nearly knocks you out of bed (and they told us the construction will continue into mid-2014.
Even without the construction, the place has issues. The maids had left trash in our room from the previous guests (used plastic water cups and food wrappers on the window sill in the bedroom). There is also no daily maid service. The free breakfast was so bad and the room where it was served was so crowded, we had to leave and go to a nearby IHOP.
While other nearby hotels offer free parking for guests with shuttle service to Disneyland, Peacock charges an additional $10 per day on top of the room rate for parking, plus $5 per person for a shuttle to the park. If there are four or more in your family, you are better off taking your own car to the park and paying Disney’s $16 parking fee.
The positives: beds were comfortable; Internet was fast; TV selection was good; and the staff tried to be friendly. But be warned, if you’re looking for a pleasant and restful accommodation, the Peacock Suites is not where you will find it.
