“Excellent Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2009

Stay 3 nights with 15 year old daughter. Not flashy but certainly exceptional value for money. Walking distance to Disneyland and the Cheesecake Factory (A must do). Many eating places withinn walking distance. Rooms were clean. Got a room with a balcony Disney Facing so that we could watch the fireworks of an evening, was also away from the highway. Staff were helpful. Would certainly stay there again.

We stayed at the HoJo for four nights in early January 2009 for a visit to Disneyland and surroundings. The experience was great, as everything in the room was clean and provided a nice quiet place to relax after a day of walking. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and it was nice to have both a fridge and microwave in the room for late night snacks and early morning breakfast. They could use more parking spaces, but that was a minor inconvience.

We just left after staying for 4 nights with our 3 and 5 yr old. This hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. I am a neat freak and the room was very clean and spacious. The refrigerator and microwave were very handy as we ate breakfast in the room and packed food for the park every day. The Keurig coffee maker was a huge plus. Rafael, who was the manager on for most of our stay, was incredibly helpful. We switched rooms b/c we needed a balcony and a table, and they moved us right away. Also used the washing machines and they were inexpensive and good quality. I had some coins get stuck in the washer and they refunded my money immediately--no questions asked so I could finish the wash. Our kids loved the pirate pool. Very close to the park. We only brought a stroller once, and our 3 yr old was able to do the walk both ways. Only thing that would have been nice would have been if the pool opened earlier and if the refrigerator was a bit bigger.

Would definitely stay again. This place rivaled some 4 and 5 star hotels where my husband and I have stayed in the past.

Easy walking distance to Disney (less than 10 minutes)and plenty of places to grab a quick breakfast before entering Disneyland. New pirate cove water play area amused my kids for a couple of hours while we sat in the hot jacuzzi watching them(lovely 102 degree water!). The Outdoor swimming pool was in another part of the complex and was partially shaded, appreciated if it was summer. Pool towels available free at the pool and water play area-- very handy since we were early and the rooms were not available for check-in yet. Staff was efficient and friendly. Beds were plenty comfortable with big fluffy pillows and the bathroom was fine. Roomy enough for 4. Would definately stay again. May want to pay extra to be in a room not facing the interstate highway which is literally behind the hotel but we were upgraded for free to a room facing the pool. We did not hear any noise from the highway in our room.

I can't speak highly enough of this hotel. It was clean, friendly and fantastic services. I loved having the complimentry internet terminal in the foyer. This was great to keep in touch with loved ones at home as well as making some last minute arrangements. The little gift shop was great for picking up bits and pieces and for some breakfast cereal on the days we didn't feel like going out for a big breakfast. They even provided us with disposable bowls and spoons. I really appreciated the guest washing machines and dryers, $1.25 for a load of washing and $1.50 for the dryer(i think). This hotel is a short easy walk from Disneyland. There are lots of family restaurants along the way. We loved Ihop! A little tip for anyone travelling with kids, jump in a cab or take a trip around to Anaheim Plaza when you first get to Anaheim, Walmart is a great place to stock up on chips, water, snacks and a lot cheaper than eating all day in Disneyland. The highlight of our stay at the Hojo Anaheim would have to be the kids pool area. My two are 9 & 11 and they loved it. I also had a problem with a charge on my Visa card. Once I got home I contacted a lovely lady Joanne and she went to extrondinary lengths to help me get it cleared up. No better place to stay for a Disneyland holiday. We travelled down to San Diego and then on to West Hollywood and I wished we had stay at Anaheim instead.

Will definitely stay there again! Rooms were large/spacious. On site shop had what we needed and room attendant was thorough daily. Close to cafes/restaurants and Disneyland.

Will try this again as after writing a long review the Tripadvisor site crashed and the review was lost.

Arrived at 8.30am at the HO JO and was told that the early check in we requested was not available and to come back between 3 - 4pm. So it was off to Disneyland to see if the magic of Disneyland could keep my 8 year old son awake after no sleep for some 30 hours. Well believe it or not the magic worked and our first day at Disney was wonderful. Finally our stamina gave out around 4pm and we made our way back to the hotel a brisk 5 - 8 minute walk. We arrived about 4.15 and were told the room was still not ready not happy as my son was asleep standing up by this time. We were told that it would be sometime as the carpets had been shampooed and they were waiting for them to dry.
I find it hard to believe they would do this when they know we were waiting for the room and had a child that was in dire need of sleep and we had constantly asked for the earliest check in possible. I recieved no reply when I stated this but was told to go and wait in building 1 and they would come and get us when it was ready. Thankfully the wait was only about 30 minutes and we were pointed in the direction of our room. Now a map from reception would have been a nice touch as the hotel is quite large and a real rabbits warren. But after asking a few guests we finally made it to the room.
So for the first part of the review you can give reception a big black mark of bad service as this was a poor way to commence our 5 night stay.

Anyway the room was very clean and spacious, with a very comfortable bed. Funnily enough the carpets had NOT been shampooed which left a nasty taste in our mouths as you would think if you were not going to tell the truth to a guest as to why there room was not ready then you would not make it so easy for them to find out that the reason was not true. Bad form reception!!

The room was on the second floor facing the pool and supposedly one of the quieter ones. But as this hotel keeps the pool open till 11pm trying to sleep to the sounds of the game Marco - Polo being called out ever few seconds is extremly difficult. Thankfully my son is a good sleeper and as soon as the pool closed it was possible to sleep. A earlier closing time of 9pm would be far more practical as most guests have spent the whole day in Disneyland and on the whole seem to go to bed early especially if they have kids.

The gift, shop was handy and also sold washing powder for the laundry which was well equiped and well priced. The water park is a huge hit with the children and was great to visit after a day in the disney parks.

There are plenty of restaurants nearby and we tried a different one each day and all were quite good. Although the huge US servings take some getting use to. I would love to teach them also that a salad is more than just lettuce!

I saw in a previous review that someone suggested visiting Disneyland on the weekdays . Well I beg to differ as we were there Saturday through to Wednesday and yes the weekend is busier but they have far more staff on duty and all rides working at maximum capacity which means all queues move quickly. Where as on week days they have alot less staff and might I say less capable staff and also do not run the rides at full capacity Autopia is a classic example only running at half capacity. This means yes shorter queues but quite often a longer wait. In fact the busiest day by far during our 5 days was the Monday which was twice as busy as the weekend. Also a big thing to consider is that not all shows run during the week when it is not peak season. A example of this is the Fantasmic show on Sat / Sun nights this does not run on weekdays and is a must see as you will never see such a spectacular show anywhere else in the world. In our opinion even better than the famed Disney fireworks.
Two other tips are arrive before opening time as they always open the parks early and if you want to try a Corn Dog try the red van on the right at the end of main street where the dogs are freshly made and dipped something you will rarely find in the USA.

All in all the Howard Johnson is a great place to stay, great for famalies visiting Disneyland a little noisy but then it is Los Angeles a city of 20 million.

One last tip is do not get put off by the poor reception staff as thankfully you do not have to deal with them once you check in.
