As a family of two adults and two teenagers, we stayed in this Hojo in July 2012. The location is superb, within 10 minutes walk to Disneyland and California Adventure Park. There is a McDonalds and Mimi's cafe just a short walk away.
We stayed in the back building (number two) on the fourth floor. Our room was very quiet, there was no traffic noise etc at all - the only thing you heard at night was the fireworks from the theme parks nearby (this was no issue for us, as apart from the night we arrived, we were still at the theme parks at this time of night anyway).
This hotel really is very good value for money - when checking on the internet, we couldn't find one within the same price range that was anywhere near as good.
The room was very clean with modern amenities. The only issue we had in the bedroom, was a rollaway bed (we had a double bed, a single bed and a rollaway bed). The rollaway was unfortunately much shorter than a standard bed and when we enquired, we were told they don't have any larger/standard size rollaways. This meant that our shortest teenager was not particularly comfortable, as although she is rather short, her feet still hung out the end of the bed.
We would definitely stay here again, but next time we would upgrade to a room not needing a rollaway (but if your children are younger (shorter) than ours, a triple room with rollaway is however a great way to keep the cost down).
There is a laundry room downstairs in this block which is a real bonus.
The only facility this hotel is missing is a restaurant/breakfast service. We found on the mornings we wanted to get up and going smartly, we struggled with breakfast. There is a small shop on the premises where you can buy milk, pottles of cereal etc, but your options are limited. And Mimis meant you had to have time to sit down for a meal (not really an option when you're wanting to beat the theme park queues early). So the only real option was to grab McDonalds on the way to Disneyland (which if you have a three day + pass, can get a bit tiresome). One day we thought we would get into the park and then get breakfast, only to find that many of the food sites there didn't open until 11am.
The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. They helped us store our bags in their very secure luggage room. They were also able to organise shopping excursions for us, and when I looked in to the price of down town LA bus tours and limo tours, I found a limo place prepared to take us around for the day for a good price (when there are four or more of you in your party, limo and bus tour costs become very similar, making limos an attractive option). When I checked with the reception staff via email before we left home to ask if they had heard of the limo company, they were able to instead get me a booking with the limo company they recommend (Tim's Limos) at the same cost. It was great booking with a reputable company, and our teenagers loved the surprise day in a limo!
Thanks to all at the Howard Johnson who helped make our stay so much fun!
Rooms in building number two at the back of the property are very quiet, well worth the slightly lon...
