“Super impressed with Family Suite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

We are a family of 4 with two kids (1 and 4 years old), and normally like to stay at 4 star plus accomodations. HoJo Anaheim was recommended to us by a co-worker and it did not dissapoint! We stayed here for 6 days at the end of Aug - early Sept while visiting Disneyland and running the Disneyland Half Marathon (Sept 2). We paid $190 per night for a Family Suite and found it more than worth our money in every way!

The Family Suite was clean, colourful and very accessible (in Building 1). They contain two very large rooms - the main room with a bunk bed and sofa, and a bedroom with king bed, microwave and mini-fridge. The king bed was super comfortable - isn't that what you're looking for in a good hotel? My son loved the bunk bed. It was very close to the waterpark (which our 4 year old loved - water slides, toddler pool), right across from Mimi's Restaurant, and convenient for getting on the "main sidewalk" to Disneyland. We found the service here to be exceptional. If you asked for anything from the front desk, it was often delivered within 10 mins - they were also knowledgeable and helpful. The parking was also plentiful and FREE! Wow.

Although the WiFi didn't work all the time, it was way more reliable than other hotels we have stayed at this summer. It worked for us 85% of the time. Come on folks, you're on vacation - not to sit on the computer. My husband did have to work from the hotel one day and had no reliability issues. The food at Mimi's Restaurant was awesome and very reasonable prices compared to the parks, and had healthy choices too! We got a take out menu the first day and ate there almost daily. We called in a pick-up order and it usually only took 10 mins. We had our best meals in Anaheim at Mimi's and we dined out quite alot (not including Carthay Circle which cost 10 times as much). We probably ate there about 10 times in 6 days and never got sick of it.

HoJo is not the closest to Disneyland if that is what you are looking for. It would be a solid 8 min walk pushing a stroller. We normally went first thing in the morning, then came back to the hotel for lunch/mid-day and to play in the waterpark and then returned to the parks around 5pm. This meant 4 times 8 minute walk every day. Although we found it to be ok (we were there to run a half marathon), this might be an issue for some folks, particularly if they had "walking" toddlers or limited mobilty. (Although if walking isn't your thing, what are you doing at DL?) We found the positives of the hotel to outweigh this negative.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean & fun hotel. We spent alot of time in the hotel room (with a one year old who napped alot) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It surely outdid our expectations, as did the staff there. Having Mimi's across the street was a huge bonus!

We stayed for three nights with our 3 year old. It was a great hotel for visiting Disney. It really is just a short walk to the park gates - you are closer than the Disney parking lots,. The rooms were clean and nice. There's a pretty well stocked convenience store in one of the buildings, which is helpful. Our room had a microwave as well as a fridge, which was good for heating up leftovers for a midnight snack. We asked the front desk staff for restaurant recommendations and directions, and they were very helpful.

Two things were slightly disappointing: 1) The wireless internet access was a bit spotty. I called the front desk to inquire and they said too many people were using it. I feel they could plan for that better. 2) The pool area wasn't as appealing as it looked online. But to be honest, with spending all day at the parks, I don't know when we would have visited the pool anyway.

Have stayed at Howard Johnson Anaheim twice before, great hotel location for Disneyland. The rooms are clean and tidy and Mimi's Cafe across the road is AMAZING. Make sure you visit her for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Staff are friendly and free wifi is a bonus.

Wonderful stay, very polite and friendly employees, clean room, great location. The room was a bite noisy because we were next to the garden pool and there were guest that stayed in the pool and partied way past the 10:00 closing hour. The sleep quality was good after the pool was cleared out.

We have stayed at HoJos many times over the last 5 years. However, when we recently tried to book a room the rates were $100 PER NIGHT more than they were 8 months prior. This hotel was a good value at $90 a night. What a joke that they think they are still a good value at $179.00 a night! This is a standard, run of the mill hotel that should be no more than $90.00 a night. It's VERY OLD and right next to the freeway which is VERY NOISY no matter where your rooms are. The staff are indifferent and put no extra effort forth in assisting anyone. The only restaurant close to it is the MIMIs which is expensive. It's says it's within walking distance but it's still quite a walk when you consider that you have to walk down to the light and then past the tram station. It's much less walking to park in the parking garage plus the only walking you do is to walk through downtown disney once you get off the tram. If they want to charge $179.00 a night they need to provide the same experience you get staying at a resort hotel because the Paradise Pier hotel is not that much more expensive and you get a lot more value for your dollar. We put up with the staff and condition of the hotel because it was cheaper. You don't expect much when the prices are lower but we will not stay there at the new price level. It's is no longer a good value.

We stayed here for 9 days and found all of the staff including the shops very friendly and helpful. The room had a good wifi Internet connection, however, some of our group did not have the same quality. It depends on which room you stay in. The pool and pirate water park were great for the kids entertainment after a long day at Disneyland. The rooms were serviced well each day and the laundry facilities had a washing machine and dryer. There is a games room (including an air hockey table) that was good for the kids as well. Parking is ample if you have a car. There are 2 iMac computers for free usage in reception, however, you can also "air print" straight to reception if you have an iPhone or iPad. This is great if you need to print tickets etc...

Mimi's cafe across the road is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers good value dining...

Reception staff are very friendly and helpful and are always willing to provide advice or book transportation. We would stay here again!
