“Pros & Cons”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

We booked a "2 Queen Beds Premium Room w/ Disney View". We ended up being in Building 1, which is next to the check-in building. Building 1 is a tower, not sure how many floors (I think 7). We were on 4th floor facing Disney. Although we faced Disney, I can't say we really saw too much other than the monorail. At night we saw some fireworks - some of the fireworks were either too low, and others were blocked a large tree. If you want a true Disney view, I think you need to request being on the top floor. I didn't make this request since I didn't realize the set-up of the building and incorrectly assumed that I would see more of Disney, i.e. the Matterhorn or the Castle. In any case it was not a huge deal to us since we were drop dead tired at the end of each day and the extra money for the Disney view was minimal. We booked using a "Mousesavers" rate and our daily rate was around $150. One benefit to being in Tower 1 with the "Disney View" is that we were far away from the freeway. To summarize:

Pros:
Room was quiet, even though we were right by the elevator
Beds were comfortable
Close to Disney

Cons:
Decor was meh even though the website says it was renovated in 2011
Poor internet connection
"Disney View" was iffy

Room Tip: If you pay for a Disney View, you should request a top floor. Lower floors in the tower have minimal...

Stayed 6 nights from June 25th. Upgraded to a Disney View room months prior and no problem. Everything else has already been said - easy walk to Disney, clean, helpful and attentive staff. Only negatives were no towels at adult pool one afternoon, and in the view room there is a large half moon shape window with no curtain. So as soon as the sun rises, your room is flooded with light. Otherwise very affordable, and perfect for a family Disney vacation.

I love this property - great location an easy 8 minute walk to main gate Disneyland. Rooms are good sized, pool area is nice and central to most of the rooms and the kids water park area for the little ones is brilliant. Convenience store on site, reception staff are friendly and very helpful - it really is a great option for families at Disneyland. Our second stay and we will be back I am sure - thanks Ho Jo's.

Room Tip: Block 2 is nice for the main pool area

We stayed at the Howard Johnson's on June 10th for one night. We had a complimentary night with the Wyndham Rewards and we decided to try the property. We were in the high rise tower with a balcony on our room. The only complaint I had was that there wasn't a lot of parking and there was no ramps on the side of the building where we had to park the car and had to carry the luggage up about 6 steps.

1. Pros for this hotel is the location, location, location. This hotel is an easy 12 minute walk to the park.
2. Plenty of restaurants nearby for the family.
3. The rooms were large enough and the beds were comfortable.
4. Free Parking
5. Castaway Cove waterpark was fun for my son, who is 6 years old. They had a few small waterslides for him to enjoy. (if you had teenagers they might not enjoy the slides since they are geared towards smaller children)
6. We did walk towards the back of the hotel complex and did see the heated pool and it looked clean and well kept.

The front desk was very helpful and was eager to answer any questions we had for our time in Anaheim.

We did eat at Mimi's Restaurant that they recommended for breakfast. The food was tasty and the portions were plentiful.

Room Tip: Request a room that you can see the fireworks from your balcony in the evening at the Disneyland Par...

Ok, its already been written before. But to summarise:
Pro's
10 min walk to Disney main gate.
Good pool areas, one for kids the other more for adults.

Con's
Our family of 2 adults & 2 teenagers would have appreciated knowing about an upgrade to a larger suite, due to us staying more than a week.
Internet in a word HOPELESS, sometimes it worked, sometimes as slow as dial up, othertimes not at all.
Freeway noise, no chance of sitting on the balcony for peace & quiet.
Hard carrying luggage up stairs due to no lift in 2 story building.
Very dated bathroom decor.
Skylight dome has a nice effect, but has no curtain so dont even think of a sleep-in.

Would i stay there again?
I'd check out rates at the half dozen or so other hotels along the street first, then decide.

The Anaheim Howard Johnson's is not like the classic motor lodges I grew up seeing along the interstates in the last 70's/early 80's. No orange gable roof, on-site cafeteria, or site-made salt water taffy. With that said, I believe this HoJo is better even without the "classic" HoJo look (even though some on-site food would be nice).

Since our time in Anaheim was going to be exclusively Disney-centric, our family simply walked to Disney (approx. 8-10 minutes) and GardenWalk (12-15 mins) and did not bother to rent a car. Transfers to the airport, we flew in/out of LAX, pick up right in front of the hotel.

The highlight for our 5 year old daughter was the Pirates Cove water play area. She always had a smile on her face between the water slides, water cannons, wading pool, and trying to avoid the drench bucket! We made it back every afternoon from the parks just so she could have a dip. With the hotel being so close to the action, it was never a problem to work that into the schedule.

We did have some schedule conflicts with the housekeeping staff. They were attentive and thorough in their jobs, but we happened to be in the room catching a nap or just returning from the parks at different times on different days, and that's when they wanted to clean. We just could not time it correctly since one day they cleaned at 4 PM, 2 PM, then at 10 AM on our day of check-out (check-out is at 11).

Room Tip: We stayed in building 1, third floor facing Disneyland. We had a view of the fireworks and watched t...

We have stayed here at least 10 times and it is always just fine. This is the farthest north motel on Harbor Blvd that is easily walkable to Disneyland; I time it every trip both ways because I'm a geek and with 2 small children, stroller or not, making the stoplights or not, it takes 9 min to walk from the parking lot of HoJo to the security gate at Disneyland.
Free parking, and they let you park as late as you want the day of checkout.Great bonus as the other Harbor Blvd motels only allow you to park up to 3pm or 6pm on the day of checkout, and moving your car to park in Disneyland is $15.
The pirate pool is very fun -- note that it is just a splash pad, water slide, 1 ft deep wading pool, and spa (no swimming pool.) There is a full size heated pool on property as well but no spa there. If you don't have a view room you can see Disneyland fireworks very well from the spa.
Rooms are outdated but they have done a good job marketing them as "retro" and they are clean and well-maintained. Beds are comfy. Coffee is single serve and they stock 4 K-cups of regular coffee. Minor gripe: the paper cups have a terrible taste.
Upstairs rooms have skylights so request a downstairs room if you don't want to wake at dawn.
Disneyland Annual Passholders get 20% off any room. There are occasionally Entertainment Card/Annual Passholder "Retro Rate" rooms available starting at $59 -- check the hojoanaheim site community board for available dates.
We will stay here again, but usually only opt for this hotel when we have a blockout date on our Disneyland passes (the kids are happy to spend the day at the pirate pool), or when we can get the Retro Rate. Otherwise there are several motels with similar levels of cleanliness and amenities a few minutes' closer walk to Disneyland than the HoJo.

Room Tip: Buildings 4 and 5 are centrally located between both pools and close to the parking lot (you exit pa...
