“Not Fancy but we enjoyed it and would come back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2011

We stayed there June 15-22. Our room was in building 1 but didn't face the highway. The room was older and unrenovated (old decor, a little tired) but the beds were very comfortable.

Our kids (8 and 6) loved the Castaway Cove swimming area and the regular swimming pool. It was a great place to cool off in the afternoon after spending the morning at Disneyland.

We would walk to Disneyland in the morning, back to the Hojo in the Afternoon for some rest and swimming, and hit disneyland again in the evening. It was nice to have the bar fridge in the room and the store at the hotel was reasonably priced.

One of our favorite things was watching the Disneyland fireworks while sitting in the hotel Jacuzzi at night.

My only real complaint is that the high speed internet was a little unreliable. The older decor didn't bother me at all and I didn't notice the highway noise others have mentioned. We were there for Disneyland not to spend time in our room and we were very happy with the HOJO. Anyone with any questions can feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to provide any information I have.

In the last 4 years we have visited the Disneyland area 4 times. We usually like to split experience different hotels so we use to stay a few days at one hotel and a few days at another hotel. That was until we discovered Howard Johnson. Now, this is the only hotel we will stay at. We found it convenient and the perfect family friendly hotel. Each morning we would walk to the main gate (less than 10 minute walk); spend the morning at Disneyland; come back to the hotel for an afternoon at the waterpark (which our 4 year old loved & could spend hours in); then head back to Disneyland in the evening. The hotel was clean, convenient, and the staff was great! Trust me, we've tried the high-end hotels in Disneyland; and Howard Johnson is more suitable and fun for families with small children.

Our room was super-clean, and well maintained. The beds were comfy, and we were in a quiet, pleasant location in one of the small 2 story buildings. The room faced a quiet walkway/green area (building 6, room 201), so we were away from pool noise, but close to everything. Castaway cove (like a mini version of Lego Carlsbad's water park with a dump bucket, etc), was huge hit for my 9 yr old son and his soccer teammate, and a huge hit with me and his parents because they were well entertained, and we could just relax (see my pictures of water park, or others). We were staying here for a soccer tournament and not Disneyland like most travelers, but when I read all of the great reviews, and the fact that it had the water park too, I booked it right away. Best hotel decision ever. Afterwards, cleaned up, walked the short distance to Downtown Disney. You don't need a ticket there and there are unique shops and restaurants that are a bit pricey but fun nonetheless. We also strolled through the Disney Grand California Hotel which has an entrance via Downtown Disney. Don't miss doing this, that hotel is amazing and beautiful to walk through even if you're not staying there. Afterwards on our walk back to our hotel, we were treated to Disney's fireworks display which was viewable from seemingly everywhere. A great trip overall with tons of fun, and we didn't even go to Disneyland, since this trip was all about the soccer tournament. Will definitely be back here and asking for the same room.

The room and staff were fantastic and incredibly helpful! It was easily to find and very close to Dinseyland. The shuttle bus was great for tired children legs! It was neat and lean and decent sized rooms!

We stayed at the Hojo during our trip to Disneyland/Universal Studios. Our room had 2 queen beds, 2 sinks, a microwave, and a mini-fridge. It was a large room, as far as hotel rooms go, and the beds were very comfy. It was great to have space to keep all the stuff we brought, since we brought lots of snacks and food with us. The table was also great since we needed a place to sit and eat. My boys are 9 and 7, and they REALLY enjoyed the waterpark, we went there almost everyday and always found a chair and towels. The garden pool was nice too. It is about a 10 minute walk from the park, but we took a pedi-cab one night, which was a treat! It was free, they just work on tips, and I would highly recommend it after a long day walking around Disneyland. Disneyland was VERY crowded while we were there. Mimi's cafe was next door, but we chose to eat at Millies, which is next to Mimi's. It was very good, great prices, great menu, and quiet. The service was great too! We also ate at IHOP, which seemed really expensive compared to the IHOP's at home. I would certainly recommend this HOJO to families. We also stayed at the Disneyland hotel during this trip, it was a much smaller room, no microwave, no table to eat on. I would recommend the Disneyland Hotel for a short trip, like a long weekend, when you plan to eat out for every meal. I like the HOJO for longer trips when you want to save some money on meals and have a little more room.

This is a very good choice if going to Disneyland. The beds were very comfortable. A big attraction for this hotel seems to be the pool area. My 6-year old daughter, who is not a terrific swimmer yet, was still more interested in the pool and not the slides and play area. So, for that I think any of the area hotels would have been adequate. The walking distance to the maingate of Disneyland couldn't have been more than 5-10 minutes- very close. The hotel is older, but seemed well-kept and clean. One downside is that this hotel does not offer free breakfast like many of the other area hotels. Parking was much easier than other hotels we have stayed at when visiting Disneyland.

Room Tip: Request away from the freeway
