A group of 5 of us went to Rosine’s on a Saturday afternoon. If not for the good online reviews, I probably wouldn’t have noticed them in the strip mall next to a Subway sandwich shop. Inside was decorated much more upscale than their location would suggest. The place was less than half full. We were immediately asked how many in our party and guided to a table, but then abruptly told a table wasn’t ready and before we were able to return to wait at the entrance, told our table was ready again. I thought this strange since there were so many empty tables. Our server brought a bottle of wine to our table and had a difficult time removing the foil cap with a wine knife. She ended up picking, cutting and tearing at it until it came off in several pieces. Upon pouring the wine, she dribbled it over the table and across my wife’s lap. My wife’s new white pants were spared a shortened lifespan due to the accidental fortune that she had the menu lying across her lap as the wine was being poured. The server didn’t notice and my wife had to call it to her attention to get a napkin to clean it up. The food was great and everything came in large portions. There were no complaints about the food and several of us left with to-go containers. The Old-World Desert Sampler was unique and delicious. The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. During our visit we witnessed a to-go customer set her infant on the bar while waiting for her order. It’s difficult to manage low-class customers but the bartender should’ve asked her to remove her child from the bar. Not to mention, an ex-bartender in our group said that it is illegal to have a child on a bar due to the chance they could accidentally consume alcohol. Our overall impression brings to mind the analogy of a pig with lipstick. They’ve done a great job making the place look upscale with fancy curtains, track lighting and wine displays, but their staff is seriously untrained for what they’re trying to achieve. We were told they used to be mainly a take-out place, which is about right for the quality of service. The food however, prepared by ‘Mama Rosine’ as she was affectionately referred to as by the staff, is better than the average fare you’d get at other Greek restaurants. If they can get the staff trained to the level they’re shooting for, they could be unstoppable. Will we go back again? Yes, but dressed more casual next time to guard against spills.
