“It has rats”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2006

We just got back from Disneyland and stayed at the Candy Cane Inn in Anaheim. The place has lovely foliage, but unfortunately, we discovered that the foliage attracts and is full of rats! Thankfully, we never saw any in the room, but I never felt comfortable after seeing all the rats on the balcony/walkway and tree across from our first room. We saw one on the balcony/walkway of the first floor and at least 4 in the tree just outside that room.

When we complained, the manager very obviously feigned surprise and allowed us to move to another room that was not so close to a tree and knocked $10 off our nightly rate, but I felt disgusting the rest of the time I was there. The room we moved to was supposedly an "upgraded" room, which I guess just meant it was farther from the street, since it was older, not as nice/updated, and had a smaller bathroom.

One word to sum up our experience: "yuck!"

For the first time in three years, we chose a non-Disney property to call home and were very pleasantly surprised by the Candy Cane. Upon arrival we were instantly given access to our room and found it to be very clean and comfotable, albeit rather small.

Service from hotel personnel was outstanding. On two different occasions we had to contact guest services and in both instances someone was at our door ready to assist us within two minutes. It's been written several times already, but I can't say enough about the free morning breakfast. My family really enjoyed the selection of food available and the ambiance of eating by the pool. A free, direct shuttle was always available to take us to Disneyland, but we chose to walk each day as there is a nicely landscaped "trail" that only requires you to cross one intersection.

For future trips, I would definitely consider staying at the Candy Cane Inn. I would recommend upgrading to a deluxe room to gain a little more square footage, especially if you need to add a crib to your room, but aside from room size, everything else was very satisfying.

Upon arrival, I was a bit was surprised at how small the hotel appeared but what a gem it turned out to be. The rooms were spotlessly clean plus the choice you got for breakfast was endless. The swimming pool was a big hit with my children and was just what we all needed after a day in Disney. Plus the hotel is within walking distance of Disney but they offered a free shuttle bus running twice an hour. It was excellant value for money and would definately go back and recommend to others

We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn 6/9-6/11 and were pleasantly surprised!!!! The staff was super friendly, the room was beautiful and CLEAN, breakfast was fantastic, the gym was sparkling clean and adequate with a few pieces of equipment and the walk to the park was easy!!!! It was nice to know the shuttle was available if needed but we walked every time. We were on the 2nd floor and when inside our room didn't hear ANYTHING! In fact, even walking back and forth to the park right by the pool the noise level was at a minimum. The mini-fridge was a welcome surprise. The landscaping is absolutely beautiful! We felt like we were at a secluded resort!

We have, in the past, stayed at the Fairfield (awful room, no gym, no breakfast), Radisson Maingate (absolutely filthy, no breakfast) and Hilton Garden Inn (dirty, a/c didn't work) and the Candy Cane Inn is a GEM in comparison.

I am so thankful that we listened to the positive reviews on here and not the negative. We will never stay anywhere else when visiting Disneyland!

My wife and two daughters spent three nights (June 1-3) at the Candy Cane Inn and found it to be very nice. The only minor drawback was the size of the room but we were unable to get a premium sized one. The upstairs room we had was very quiet at night and allowed us to enjoy the fireworks show every night. We were very pleased with the cleanliness, comfort and convenience. We walked every day to Disneyland (four year old included) and enjoyed the five minute exercise. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate and we found plenty of room around the pool.

The staff was courteous and immediately checked out an air conditioning problem and resolved it. I highly recommend the Candy Cane Inn as a convenient and inexpensive way to enjoy Disneyland.

Beautifully landscaped, quiet, friendly, perfect location and private shuttle. We stayed two nights (June 4,5, 2006) in joining premium rooms (back of property) - plenty of space, good-sized mini-fridge, microwave, coffee grinder, free videos, amenities, and welcome goodies such as home-made soft, chewy cookies. We are used to staying at 3-4 star hotels and frankly, didn't expect too much - what a suprise! You can't go wrong with this pretty, botique hotel!

We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn for five nights in May, 2006. Our party consisted of five adults and one infant. We booked two deluxe rooms, and requested that they be adjoining. The only adjoining rooms available upon our arrival were in a corner at the back of the motel, and a bit too dark for us. There were also huge power lines running directly behind the rooms on this side of the inn. We opted instead for non-adjoining rooms on the second floor, and on the other side of the motel. Generally, the rooms were fine - clean, large enough (three per room), and with comfy beds. The mini fridge was a welcomed feature. We were never bothered by noise during our stay - in contrast to our last visit to HoJos, in which we were bothered by freeway noise.

The complimentary breakfast was a major bonus. With five adults, this saved us both time and money. We were able to eat at separate times (depending on who was awake and hungry, and who was still in the shower etc.), and then hook up when everyone was ready to head to Disneyland. There was a good selection of fruit, cereal, bagels etc., and we always found a place to sit. When eating by the pool, surrounded by the CCI's beautiful landscaping, we almost felt as though we were at a mini resort (emphasis on almost!).

The pool is small but adequate for dips after a day at Disney. The walk to and from DL was a piece of cake.

Overall, our stay was very nice. I think the negative reviews stem in part from the fact that not all the rooms are "equal". If you get one close to the road, it may be noisy. Standard rooms are probably a bit small. And, in fact, it IS possible to get a room over the laudry facilities that are used by staff at night to clean the linens etc.

My suggestion is to request your preferences when booking, follow this up with an e-mail, and then check out the room before you settle in. Have fun!

PS. For future reference, I checked out the Fairfield Inn and the BW Mini Suites before leaving Anaheim. The Fairfield rooms looked very nice (larger than the CCI), but without the nice landscaping and no complimentary breakfast. The BW looked marginal to me.
