“We had a great time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

We stayed at this hotel during the Disneyland half marathon weekend. We checked in around noon on Thursday and our room was ready. Everything was really clean. The beach ball pillows on each bed were adorable. They included an unobtrusive little card advising guests not to be tempted to take them home unless you wanted to pay $69 for them. LOL.

We had upgraded to the concierge package. That gave us a cabana side room on the 3rd floor with our own walk-out porch, which included a table and chairs inside a gate. If you walked out of the gate, it was only a little ways to the pool. We could sometimes here the guests at the pool, but only if they were super loud or screaming kids. We weren't in our room much, so it didn't matter. There was also a place to get tasty adult beverages while at the pool.

The Concierge package is worth it!! We received access to the concierge lounge, which provided continental breakfast, free drinks and snacks throughout the day, and a wine & cheese tasting every night. The kid could check out up to two DVDs at a time during our stay. The package included a free pin/lanyard set for everyone and preferred seating at several shows in California Adventure (DCA).

This hotel was within walking distance to everything. You could cut through the Grand Californianian to get our own entrance to DCA. There was also a shortcut into Downtown Disney. The backdoor access to DCA also dropped you right in front of the FastPass distribution for the World of Color. Add that to the fact that hotel guests get early access to the parks meant that we were basically the first in line to get WoC tickets. I recommend seeing the show.

My kid got sick one night and we had to call room service to change the sheets and clean up a small mess on the floor. They responded promptly and with a great attitude and took care of us. In less than 20 minutes it was like nothing ever happened.

The PCH Grill downstairs was great. Pricing and basic menu items were similar to a Ruby Tuesday or TGI Fridays. There was also a Mickey character breakfast, but we didn't have an opportunity to experience it.

The only little negative thing I would say is that our room faced DCA, so when World of Color was showing, we could occasionally hear some of the music to the booming of the special effects from the show. It woke us up one night (we had gone to bed early due to the early morning race schedule).

For the kid, there was an enclosed beachy-themed room with chairs where they could sit and watch movies. It was open all day. I frequently saw parents and children hanging out down there watching old Mickey cartoons.

Room Tip: I recommend upgrading to the concierge package if you are going to be there for several days.

We stayed here because my wife was attending a 3-day course there. Rooms were definitely more expensive than one would normally pay for the same size and quality, but you are paying for proximity to Downtown Disney and Disneyland (5-minute walk to the former; maybe 10 minutes to the latter, though you can take the monorail from Downtown Disney into Tomorrowland). Except for a few Disney-themed decorations, the rooms were standard. We had a special conference rate so our room had a view of the pool; you pay extra to get a view of California Adventure, etc. Room was quiet except for during the nightly fireworks shows at Disneyland/C.A. There is a business center, with PCs-- Internet access cost $6 for 10 minutes!

The bar/cafe downstairs had decent meals. Not cheap, but you wouldn't expect that here. We did not eat in the large restaurant that had the breakfast buffet costing close to $30 (though if you have kids with you maybe havng people dressed up in Disney characters is worth it). Parking was about $12 per day. There a couple of non-Disney family restaurants 5-10 mins. away by foot. Anything else requires a car.

There are lots of hotels in the area. This one is closer to the parks than others, which could be a factor for some. The hotel was, as was to be expected in August, filled with families, many with small children in strollers. Elevators were often quickly overwhelmed, especially in the morning and evening, when people were going to, or returning from, the parks, and you could end up waiting in a line.

My daughters, age 22 and 18, and I decided to take an end of summer vacation at the Disneyland resort. We all have annual passes so we got a great rate on the concierge level at this property. We arrived Tuesday afternoon around one and our room on the 14th floor looking toward California Adventure was ready. The view was amazing. We headed out for Disneyland but came back to the concierge lounge, located on the second floor, for snacks and drinks. Pretzels, snack mix,, cookies, chips, fruit, sodas, water, tea, coffee, are all available all the time. we headed out to the pool on the third floor. The pool itself it nothing special, but the kids there were obviously enjoying the large water slide. And one of the reason I love this property over the other two resort hotels is how friendly the crowd by the pool is. When we were in the hot tub we were chatting with people from all over the country and all walks of life. You usually don't get that vibe at The Grand Californian, although it's a lovely hotel. We went back to the Concierge lounge for hot chicken egg rolls, a large varied cheese and cracker platter, fresh fruit and delicious goodies and chocolate strawberries. Bear and wine are available. I had a glass of Merlot and it was fine. Then we asked for a few water bottles to go and headed back to Disneyland, but not before taking some goodies up to our room to have later that night. Turn down service was nice, our room was clean. When our large light in the bathroom burnt out, someone was there to fix it within an hour. Yes, the water pressure in the shower is a real problem that really needs to be addressed. But we had no problem with elevators, keeping in mind we were on the 14th floor. We went throughout the Grand Californian to get to the parks or used the monorail and it was quick and easy. Having the concierge lounge available for breakfast (cereal, milk, juices, coffee, teas, bagels, pastries, fresh fruit) and all the snacks and drinks, including water bottles to take to the parks, was a real money saver for us. We only bought two meals out, dinner each night. We watched World of Color both nights from our room, there is a tv channel that plays the music that goes along with it. You mostly see the back side of it, so I recommend seeing it at least once from the park for the full effect. But since we have seen it twice before in the park, we liked the different view from the comfort of our room. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room facing California Adventure if you can.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in August and had a really, really great time. The hotel staff were all exceptionally friendly, and when they found out this was our anniversary trip, we were upgraded to a king suite and given big red "Happy Anniversary" buttons (although somewhat embarassing to wear, they proved valuable - we got free champagne with lunch at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen and free dessert at Wine Country Trattoria, among other things!).

Our room was clean, modern and fairly large. The housekeeping staff were great, and decorated our bed with rose petals on our first night. The turn-down service with chocolates was a nice touch, as were the complimentary surfboard-shaped rice krispy squares.

The pool was small but nice enough, we spent an afternoon lounging under the umbrellas when the temperature got too hot at the park. There's a great, well-stocked bar near the pool and the bartender was awesome.

The only issue I had was that we had very weak water pressure in the shower. Also, it would've been nice if we had the option to order movies from our room, Disney movies especially, but they don't provide that service.

My son and two grandsons spent three nights here during the D23 Expo, a Dismey fan convention. We had a 10th floor city view room with a nice view of Anaheim, pool area, and parking. The room was very spacious with room for five as there is a fold down sleeper sof- along with two queen beds.
The bathroom is large and there is plenty of storage.
Guests have early theme park access and, while we were there we were given FastPasses for Disney park attractions.
We have previously stayed at Disney's Gramd Californian hotel and find these rooms more spacious and as well appointed, though without the easy access to Downtown Disney.

We stayed at the resort using our Disney Vacation Club ownership point; real rates for our stay would have been about $220 per night plus taxes and parking.

To celebrate my daughter's 4th birthday, we stayed at the PPH. It was our first stay. We checked in early and got into our room by 12:30pm. Since it was my daughter's bday, she received balloons, a pin and a 8"x10" b/w photo of Disney princesses. As part of the summer promotion, we received 2 fastpasses each.

The staff is friendly and attentive. They have a upbeat attitude. Our standard view room was located on the same floor as the pool. This is convenient when you have 3 kids. We didn't find the elevators to be slow or troublesome as some reviewers wrote. Our view was of CA Adventure but we weren't high enough to watch the World of Color show from our window. Room is good enough for a family of five. We had two queen beds and a couch that turns into a bed. It's not like a typical sofa bed.

The pool area was well stocked with towels. We enjoyed the slide and swimming in the pools. The walk to CA Disney Adventure was less than 10 minutes if you cut through the Grand California Hotel. The walk to Downtown Disney was 5 minutes. Free wi-fi is available and it worked well.

We didn't eat at the hotel. We ate at Downtown Disney, and went to the restaurants on Harbor Blvd. We brought water and snacks and stored them in the room's mini-fridge. Surfboard-shape rice crispy treats were delivered to our room. The kids really didn't like them, but I did.

We utilized valet parking and it cost $22 per day. After check-out, Bell Services stored our luggage while we made one more trip to the Parks.

If you're on a budget and want to stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel, PPH is it. We had a wonderful stay that we can't complain about. We've stayed at the Grand Californian and it's grand in every way. But you have to pay more for that grandness.

Room Tip: Get a 3rd floor room if you want to be on the same floor as the pool.

Loved this hotel! The pool was a good size and there was a kiddie pool, hot tub, and waterslide. The pool deck was the perfect place to watch the Disneyland fireworks and they placed the music through the speakers for you. Our room overlooked the California Adventure Park where we had a great view of the World of Colors show and the music was loud enough for us to hear with the windows open (although you could also hear it with the windows shut at 10:15pm). There was a fridge in the room and a nice pull out sofa. I wish their sink area was separate from the toilet and shower like the Disneyland hotel is set up. The character breakfast was very fun--a must do. Beds were nice and the room was spotless. The next time we're back at Disney this will probably be my first choice for hotel (the Grand Californian is nice but typically much more expensive). Disneyland Hotel is also a great choice but I like the 'personality' of this place better.
