The casino at Viejas really has some nice qualities, and is one of the better casinos in San Diego. This review is primarily of the Hamburger Hamlet which replaced the Diner that used to be in the casino, and is the only restaurant option there open 24 hours. The decor is dingy and tired, the service is way below expectations even when slow, and the food quality is just dreadful. Really this is a blight on an otherwise nice renovation at the casino. We ate there early in the morning after a late night in the casino. The restaurant was the only open option. There were a half dozen tables not cleaned up and stay that way the entire time we were there. We ordered a pancake combo which was terrible, the pancakes were wafer thin, the eggs were flavorless and rubbery, and the ham was marginal. Another guest ordered an Artichoke Heart which was somewhat better. The service was really slow, especially in light of the fact that it wasn't busy. It was so dreadful and unappetizing that next visit, faced with the same choices, I will eat from the vending machine. Judging from other reviews, this experience is the norm. You can do much better Viejas. Incidentally on the casino, it is wide open and much more spacious than some of the other local casinos. The casino has very little design sense on the inside, the rooms just seem to roam into one another, but as far as casinos go, it is decent.
