“Nice Local Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Great Italian food in a local setting - blink and you'll miss the restaurant as you are driving up San Pablo (just north of Solano). Parking is on the street and behind in the lot by Merchant's Bank (after hours).

The service and attention was excellent though I have to say the matriarch (I believe) was a bit brusque since they were out of the pasta that came with one of their dishes. Rather than telling me what pastas she would suggest as a replacement I went through a guessing game with pasta types that I liked until she became impatient and then spelled out what they had available. The restaurant wasn't busy either so that was not an excuse.

My pasta dish was large to the point that I couldn't finish it but my companion's ravioli consisted of only 6. She is a tiny 5' and found that this main course was not enough to satisfy her appetite (after a salad starter and bread). It was very good though, she enjoyed it but just wished they were more generous in the serving size.

Overall the food and service is excellent. Were it not for a somewhat rude response to a problem created by themselves (running out of a pasta type) and the smallish size of my date's main course I would have given it an "excellent" rating.

“Magnifico!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Need a place for a romantic dinner or a picky visitor? If so, this is the place to take them! The kitchen is near the front and the smell of roasting garlic fills the air. Yum! Go early, as they sold out of the lobster bisque by the time we arrived. We splurged and had their chocolate souffle for dessert. OMG! Delicioso!

“Excellent in Every Way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

I had New Year's Eve dinner here with 4 friends. We were seated right away, and immediately greeted by our waiter. We ordered cornish hen with sausage, braised scallops, beet salad, and gnocchi, then shared a chocolate soufflé and a tiramisu between us. The service was gracious and attentive, and all the food was delicious.

“A special Italian treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

A pleasant, small, neighborhood Italian restaurant on San Pablo near Solano. The food is good, and you can watch it being cooked in the open kitchen near the front of the restaurant.

“Great Resturant With Great Mix of People”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2011

Mangia Mangia is just a great friendly place to visit. The owners seem to know all of their visitors which makes this place seem like you are visiting someone's home. The menu is great, you can take your time and enjoy the food, and then they will surprise you with great desserts.

Only in the Bay Area would you see the eclectic mix of people eating together. One group was a beautiful black lady sitting with two older white guy intellectual types (must be a group of professors from Cal. Other groups included blacks, asians, and whites sittling together. You could almost feel you were at the United Nations eating hear.

Parking is easy.

Make sure you visit Mangia Mangia soon for great food, great atmosphere, and for that feeling like you are in the owner's home.
