“Difficult to find”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2006

My husband and I traveled to Alameda to be near Jack London Square, the ferry and nice restaurants, close by. The hotel was very difficult to find, even when we were returning from outings, several times. It is in a business industrial area, marina a small part of its theme.
The room was tiny, but comfortable and clean. The heated pool...was heated to 60 degrees, and the King bed we had requested was not available. Shops, stores and restaurants were a good 15-20 minute drives in heavy traffic. Pictures on the internet, were very deceiving. Boats in the Marina had sunk, I believe. Window in our room looked out on a pine tree and the other room we were offered looked out onto a weedy abandoned lot...The marina could not be seen. The window was broken also. We would have had a better time camping in a tent on the side of a mountain, at least we would have had more room. Find a hotel in another area, and don't bother going there.

In March I had to take someone to the Oakland Airport on a Sunday evening, so instead of returning to San Francisco, we opted to find a room in the East Bay, close to our 10 am appointment in Lafayette, which is just 5 minutes on the east side of the Oakland hills.

We had stayed in Jack London Square, but this time we didn't need any nightlife, besides the four of us ate at Scott's Seafood in JLSq before going to the airport. So we called the Marina Village Inn on the Alameda side of the Oakland Estuary. The phone call rate was a dollar short of $100. But they do have a $10. corporate discount.

The Marina Village Inn sits between two yacht clubs in Pacific Marina (Oakland YC and Encinal YC). It is just a couple of blocks from a good shopping center and convenient to the Webster Street "Tube" to Jack London Square.

This former Travel Lodge hasn't remodeled any of their bathrooms, but the rooms are clean, and the lobby appears to have been recently redone. They include a Continental Breakfast, with great coffee. If you're looking for a quiet night near Jack London Square and the Oakland Airport. I recommend the Marina Village Inn. It's above average for this pricerange.

I will admit that I do not require much from a hotel, essentially it be CLEAN, have a private bath and a good location. Nothing more than that. This hotel met and exceeded all those expectations. It is located in a quiet area in Alameda and next to a Marina so you look out your window every morning at the sail boats in their docks. It is conveniently located to San Francisco (takes approx. 20 minutes by car to be at Fishermans' Wharf), San Jose (approx. 30 minutes by car) and Oakland Airport (approx. 20 minutes by car in morning rush hour). All that aside, the staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful. From directions around town, to calling all different restaurants and bars to make sure we'd be able to see the Super Bowl if we went there, they were always eager to help. We NEVER felt that we were imposing on their time. All-in-all a wonderful experience, and I strongly recommend this hotel for your stay in that area.
