“Great Festival Venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

As Activities Director for the Maltose Falcons Beer Brewing Society, I arranged a festival for 40-50 people at this venue for 19-20 May 2012 and we really enjoyed our time there. The restrooms and pool were spotless, showers never ran out of hot water, the staff was very friendly, helpful, and flexible, and the grounds were well maintained. Our band was happy with using the deck of the lodge in the shade and our cook was happy with the kitchen facilities including stove, oven, sinks, and refrigerator. They have a long boardroom style table with chairs in the lodge, so we used the lodge to finish our competition judging in the afternoon and for a late evening tasting event. The staff was there again bright and early Sunday morning cleaning up after us before most of us were even awake. So this all made for a very pleasant stay for us. Everyone said it was a great success!

The "Rustic Tent" sites are, quite literally, a dried up creek bed. They wouldn't even qualify as an over-flow parking lot. The only thing distinguishing the "camp sites" from the parking lot were the picnic tables down in the dried up creek bed (which is lined by gravel, mind you, making what I can only imagine a not so super comfortable place to sleep). There are no designated camp sites. There are no fire pits, no BBQ grills in the rustic campsite area, no bathrooms, no showers... need I go on? Oh yea, and it was about 90 degrees at 6:00 pm.
We spent about 15 minutes looking around, willing to pay for an upgrade to the grassy tent area, before leaving. Although there was a guard on duty, and we asked to pay more so that we could pitch our tent in the grass, we were told there was nothing he could do. There was only one other tent in the grass area, yet we were not allowed to put ours in the same area. We were only allowed to consider the "rustic" tent sites. There was a bathroom in the grass area (about a quarter mile away from the "rustic" campsites). I could not fathom spending the night in the overflow parking lot, I mean, the rustic campsites where there were no designated spots, no dirt (only gravel) and no toilets.
Words cannot express the disappointment the kids felt when I had to tell them (after reading the signs stating you should wear close-toed shoes because RATTLE SNAKES had been spotted in the camping area) that we would NOT be camping at this place. Oh my gosh, did I forget to mention that the TRAIN (as in an AMTRACK train) passed within 100 yards of the rustic camp site approximately every hour? Seriously. Two trains came through in the 15 minutes that we were there.
TOTALLY AWFUL - would give it negatives points if possible.

Room Tip: No good rooms at this place. No good anything. Do not come here. Save your money and go to a hotel...

Visited this site for a 3 night stay in a tent (Family of 3). Even though we had booked a month in advance, on arrival after 3 days of driving from Vancouver, BC, we were told that the main camping field (top field opposite the pool, reception, shower blocks etc, etc) was full (this was the Saturday, so I guess it maybe wasn't the best arrival day). We were told that we would have to be on the overflow site, which was on a first come, first serve basis, but seeing as we were early (around 2pm), we shouldn't have so much difficulty finding a spot! This site was exactly as they said, a small sandy siding along the small, narrow river that passed through the site, approx. 400 - 500 m's away from the main site. Of course, there was no vehicle access to here, so we had to park on the ridge overlooking the area and carrying our stuff down! Were we decided to pitch we were out of the range of the wireless internet, but it felt ok, cos it was quiet and peaceful (or so we thought)! Later in the afternoon 5 cars pulled, pitching 8 tents, 10 adults and numerous kids, and they proceeded to party ALL night! The next day, the whole site completely emptied and we were pretty much alone there until we left! So extremely disappointed at not getting a pitch on the main site even though we had pre-booked. Also, the train that passes close by, is even closer where we ended up pitching, so close that the ground shook when it passed almost once an hour, all day and night! On a plus the staff where pleasant, the pool area was good and if you were on the main site, it looked like it would have been extremely pleasant! Thankfully the weather was kind for us averaging around 37 deg, so it helped improve what could have been a total disaster! On the major down side, the showers and toilets were not the best, in the gents there were two showers, which were quick open (No locking doors, just curtains) and mostly they were not so clean! The womens were even worse as there was only one shower (at least it had a door, lol), but the water pressure was not at all good!

So all in all, it was adequate, we spent most our time away from the site, but not sure we would ever go back there.

Advisable for those who are used to almost roughing it, although when you are paying this much, you expect not to have that. For those who enjoy a little more luxurious camping, then a definate stay clear.
