“Great food and drink in Auburn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

I've lived in Auburn since before Amsterdam Cafe opened and I have eaten here many times over the years; it is currently at its very best. The food is consistently very good and drinks are top notch. The service is usually very good as the staff is friendly and knowledgable. The prices are moderate for Auburn which makes Amsterdam a good regular choice for lunch and dinner. If the weather is nice, there is outdoor seating (but you will not be impressed by the view). Amsterdam Cafe is popular with the locals and does not take reservations so show up early or expect to wait.

“Fried green tomato BLT & Frogmore soup...yummy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

Cute local lunch spot near AU. A little worn for wear, dark, nothing much for decor. Service was kinda spotty. But the food was awesome. BLT with fried green tomatoes was wonderful. Artisan bread, crispy bacon, and that oh so perfectly fried green tomato. To die for. Next, why have I never heard of frogmore soup? Think a blonde version of gumbo, w/o chicken or tomatoes. Shrimp, spicy sausage in a creamy perfectly seasoned elixir with sliced potatoes. It was divine. Cold weather comfort food at its best. You've got to try this.

“WHAT HAPPENED??”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

We live in Auburn and have come here for years. It has always been consistent with great food, atmosphere and service. Resent experiences have not been that great, and friends had warned us that it was going downhill but seriously- tonight was AWFUL. Sunday night and the place was pretty sparse. A/C was blasting despite temps in the 50s. We kept our coats on the whole time.
Service was slower than Christmas. Seriously. Salad and entree came out at the same time...by the time we shoveled down our salad, the entree was completely cold (thanks, A/C!) It was ok-nothing special. Ordered dessert and it took 25 minutes (again very few people in the place, so I'm not sure why it took so long) and when it arrived it was inedible. Ick.
There are lots of other delicious options in town (Acre, The Hound, Hamilton's) so Amsterdam Cafe needs to shape up if they want to compete.

“Consistent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

I have been going to this particular restaurant for years and the food has always been very good. The ambiance, though at times noisy is great. Over the years the service has been spotty, though again overall it has been good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant it is easily one of the best ones in Auburn.

“Excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

We both had the lunch pasta, with chicken and steak, a Les Touches 2012 Sauvignon blanc, and bread pudding. Amazing!
