I must have a knack for hotels with closed pools. I called ahead of time and even rechecked a couple of days before check-in. The pool was closed with no information on why or when/if it would open again. Very frustrating. The hotel itself is in a great location and the rooms were nice. I liked the size of the showers even though it left the bathroom smaller. It was very clean and that's a big plus. I gave it an average rating because it's a big pet peeve of mine to stay at a hotel that doesn't compensate for one of the things you're paying for. Like, the closed pool. The restaurant was pretty good. Nothing too special, but maybe better than most Auburn restaurants. The pasta was good, but nothing to really brag about. I didn't care for the bread and I had to ask for it. The calamari was pretty good and the salad that was with it was very good. The staff was extremely friendly, as were the people at the school and in the town. I did like the traditional decor of the hotel.
Make sure the pool is operating, if you would like that amenity.

Thank you so much for staying with us during your recent visit to Auburn, and for giving us your fair and balanced feedback on both the positive and negative aspects of your stay.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the decor of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. In our capacity as the training hotel for the College of Human Sciences, we have a primary mission to prepare our students to become the next generation of hospitality managers. Our staff of students and hospitality professionals take this mission to heart each day, and strive to provide a memorable and unique stay for all of our guests.
I would like to extend my apologies to you for the fact that our outdoor pool was closed during your visit. Each spring, dependent upon the weather, we drain, seal, and repaint the pool to ensure that it is in top condition for our guests during the hot Alabama summer. We had completed the painting and re-filling of the pool the day prior to your arrival, however the chemical balance of the pool was not correct, and Alabama health codes do not permit us to open the pool until the proper levels are reached. We were also awaiting the installation of our pool lift; in accordance with new ADA regulations for public swimming pools, we are not permitted to open the pool without an operational lift installed. I'm sorry that our staff did not communicate to you the reason that we could not allow guests to get into the pool for several days, and I can certainly understand your disappointment.
I do hope that should your travels bring you back to Auburn, you might consider staying with us again and I invite you to contact me personally if I can ever be of assistance to you.
