“Caution, 2013 change in management and Inn Keeper”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Caution, 2013 change in management and Inn Keeper. For returning guest, it is evident in the lost floral arrangements, magazines, lights not working, spots on carpet, frayed fabric on light switches and furniture. Also gone is the gourmet breakfast, now a breakfast much like any other hotel free hot breakfast. Don’t expect turn-down service with freshly made treats on your bed at night, nor a beautiful table setting for breakfast – it is serve yourself now. The new Inn Keeper is doing his best, but it is apparent the new management has him going in many different directions, including I understand, working in their restaurant in Auburn. Previous Inn Keeper Gary and Julie added charm and elegance to the property, and touches that just made you feel special - that is gone. It is still a good place to stay in Auburn, but in my opinion no longer a Trip Advisor five star rating I have given in the past.

Jason G, Manager at Fountainview Mansion, responded to this review, December 12, 2013
We would like to extend a sincere apology for the disappointment you feel with the change in ownership and management. Our goal has been to continue the level of service guests of Fountainview Mansion have always received and to, hopefully, make the change as painless and seamless as possible for our return guests.
Without review sites such as Trip Advisor, it becomes much harder to gauge how our guests feel about the level of service and amenities offered to them.
Your feedback forced me to research the value turn down service really has for some guests. We will be reinstating the practice of turn down service from this point on.
Also, we are working hard to make necessary repairs to some areas of the mansion. Currently, repairs are underway on many of the doors and windows in the mansion. Once this monumental task is completed, we will look into replacing some of the carpets in the guests rooms, which, might I add, are in the state in in which we received them 6 month ago.
Thank you for your honest and fair review. We welcome you back to Fountainview Mansion anytime.

Imagine your every convenience being anticipated and that you are the welcomed (and long-awaited) guests in the well appointed home of very dear friends. Indeed, this no off-the-shelf experience; better yet, this one won't break the bank to make happen. We have thoroughly enjoyed making this our home for Auburn Game Day for the past several years...

Room Tip: We always try to have the Kensington Room overlooking to front lawn...

It's like an English castle. As you drive up, you would almost expect all the pageantry you see in the charming English movies. And the interior is every bit as extraordinary. Gary and Julie truly treat you as their invited guests. The whole experience redefines the Bed and Breakfast concept. We've never experienced anything like this anywhere in the U.S.

An absolutely beautiful mansion that reflects the owners' grace and charm throughout. Gary and Julie Klarenbeek provide their guests with exquisitely appointed rooms and the warmest hospitality imaginable. If you are looking for elegant accommodations, gourmet breakfasts, and genuinely caring hosts, this is the place! We've been back five years in a row and can honestly say there is no finer place to stay in the Auburn area than the Fountainview.

Fountainview Mansion is by far one of the best B&B’s I have ever experienced. The charm and elegance of the mansion house is only surpassed by the outstanding and friendly service of the owner, Gary, and staff. The breakfast and night-time treats just add to the pleasure of staying at Fountainview. Even driving up the winding wooded road to a wonderful view of the hill top mansion home is a delight.

This is one of the most incredible places I have ever stayed. The house is so beautiful. We had wonderful conversations with the owners and other guests. The owners were so gracious and accomodating. We had the most delicious cookies brought to us, and the breakfast was wonderful. The cinnamon roll was the best I have ever had. The house was decorated for Christmas and it wa just breathtaking. It does not get any better than this.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Kensington Palace suite and it has a wonderful jetted tub.

Unfortunately, I didn't discover Fountainview Mansion until my daughter's graduation weekend from Auburn University. I would have loved staying here every time we visited Auburn while she was a student there. A real mansion, the furnishings and grounds were beautiful, and the room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. The owners treated us like friends, preparing a delicious breakfast for us (if you're lucky, they'll be serving praline French toast). The university is an easy 4 miles away. We will definitely stay here if we return to Auburn!
