“Pleasantly surprised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Tour is self paced, the $4 extra for the audio is well worth it, we spent about 3 hours and had a great time. The police shooting simulator was a highlight for us all!

Dear Jrattravels – Thank you so much for your short and sweet review! I am not sure if you noticed, but Bill Curtis from Cold Case Files is actually the voice on our Audio Tours. Next time you are in DC please stop by and say hello. Thank you again for writing a review. – Susan

“Interesting Museum in a City of Museums”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We were not sure about this one, but wanted to try something a little different as compared to all the Smithsonian's. The tour begins with a good overview of crime and punishments through history. It quickly moves to modern times with a "CSI" like lab explaining some forensic science. You can also try your hand in a police car simulator and shooting range. You can purchase an audio tour, but we just walked through at our own pace. I think you could spend as little as an hour if you are in a hurry, and perhaps a half day or more depending on your interest and pace. Admission was about average, but there are other optional add ons which can really drive the price up. We didn't opt for any of those, so I can't comment.

Dear surfun – Thank you for writing exactly what I was thinking! Some people feel they have to read everything, but really you can just skim through the highlights. I say if you are short on time, just look at the artifacts and read about them. However, if you want to read…We have plenty of reading for you! Thank you for your kind words! We appreciate you. – Susan

“Fun place for Kids and Adults”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

Even though it's not a FREE museum we did choose to go here and we really enjoyed it. The kids loved all the hands on things to do and I loved all the kids safety questions through out the museum. We spent alot of time here and had fun.

Dear Christina R – If you read my comments you will see that I TRULY APPRECIATE those comments where moms and dads state their kids had a great time. I get a lot of student groups and they always say they had the best time here more than anywhere! There are so many things for kids to do here, and I also love our Top Detective Challenge booklet. Everyday I see parents following their super excited kids who are on the hunt to find Blackbeard’s hidden medallion. So with the safety questions, our Top Detective Challenge and all the interactive exhibits kids will stay busy! Thank you again so much for coming to the Museum and writing this review. We appreciate it! – Susan

“Too much reading!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We were looking forward to this museum, but ended up being disappointed. There were some super exhibits in there and interesting information about crimes committed, but nearly every section had masses and masses of information to read...so much so I began to have a headache trying to take it all in...therefore, I would not recommend it for young children as even the adults were skimming and scanning quickly trying to decipher the key points. As a teacher, this was a let down...the writing needs to be more succinct and presented in a variety of ways to allow access to everyone. A museum should not be 'hard work' it should be enjoyable, especially with entrance fees.

Dear Juze123 – when it comes to content, how much is too much, it is so tough. Some people like to skim, some people want to read and read and read. Personally I am skimmer, so when I go through I like to look a pictures and captions as well as artifacts. You can choose to do either here or buy an audio tour and just take that route. It is good for people to read reviews like this so they know they have options when coming here. I also suggest taking a Forensic Science workshop. The possibilities are endless, but what we cannot do is eliminate all the reading. A lot of people like to read – tough call. I am so sorry you were disappointed. Please, next time you come back, you can be my guest for one of our Forensic Labs. Thank you again. – Susan

“Great museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

In a city of many museums, this one is definitely a must-see! It's an exciting and informative tour that everyone visiting DC should experience. Provides a great overview and first hand look at our country's most notorious criminals. Makes for a great afternoon! If you have only limted time to visit DC, this should be on your "to-do" list?
