“What a hotel during the holidays!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights during the Christmas holidays. The wonderful tree in the main lobby along with several trees that line the main hallway were beautiful. Each night they had singing groups in the lobby doing holiday music. This was almost magical.

This hotel is very near The White House and within walking distance of all major attractions in DC. It is quite expensive, but well worth the price for a special occasion. Lovely rooms, good service, an in house Elizabeth Arden Spa. You feel very pampered staying here. Also near The Old Ebbitt Grill which is a historic place to eat with good food.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 5th floor and were near the 'back' elevators. It is nice to be near these...

“Ritzy Way to Enjoy DC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

I just want to forewarn you that the Willard is a very classy establishment, so be prepared. I was undressed and felt like a bum staying at the Willard. They treat you with the utmost respect and want to ensure your stay with them is superb. It is just more service than I am used to. Be accepting of being pampered. Very impressive.

“Beautiful historic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

Can't say enough about our wonderful experience at the Willard this past weekend. My husband and I decided on a weekend getaway to Washington DC and booked at the Willard based on a family member's recommendation. We were looking for something historic and traditional ("old-school" if you will...I don't really care for super modern/contemporary properties). The Willard fit the bill and more. From the gorgeous period decor, to the friendly and helpful staff, to our comfortable room and spacious bath, it was a perfect stay. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays, which made it even more special.

We arrived Friday evening and chose to eat at the Cafe du Parc, a delicious French bistro attached to the hotel. Food and service were both terrific. Afterwards, we enjoyed drinks at the "Nest", one of the two hotel bars. My husband loved the selection of scotch, and enjoyed sampling different kinds during our stay.

Saturday was for sight-seeing, and The Willard is in a prime location for it, just two blocks from the White House and minutes from the attractions of the National Mall, the Smithsonium and Holocaust Museums, etc. There are quite a few restaurants and bars within easy walking or cab distance, and the Concierge is only too happy to make reservations for you depending on your tastes and mood.

While the Willard is definitely not cheap, we did enjoy the government rate (my husband is in the military); even so, paying "full price" would have been worth it just for the location alone. The fact that everything else about our stay was so wonderful made us feel like we'd really gotten a deal! We've both said we'll stay at the Willard again next time we're in DC.

“Expensive and worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

This was a more expensive hotel than we would normally stay in as a family, but having saved up, we decided to treat ourselves. It was worth every penny. Top marks for helpful staff, large room (though I suspect it was one of their smaller ones), friendly atmosphere, decor (though that word hardly captures the historical renovation) and simply the best location for exploring central Washington. We had a fantastic week in Washington and staying in this beautiful hotel was part of that experience.

“Thanksgiving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I stayed at The Willard with my family over Thanksgiving. The rooms were comfortable, and most of the staff was helpful and courteous. It would have been nice to have an empty refrigerator in the room instead of the full mini bar with the weighted system for charging items. We had reservations for the Thanksgiving brunch/dinner, which was lovely. They served champagne and mimosas to start, then we were free to enjoy whatever we wanted from the bountiful buffet tables set up in the hall. The only thing missing was pie. All in all, a nice vacation.
