“A night and day in DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

I had a quick business trip to DC and only spent a night, but the Willard, as usual, was awesome. There is a lot of history with this hotel, but the amenities are as modern as they come. The lobby is beautiful, striking and rich with history. The rooms are large and bathrooms are modern with marble and high end toiletries. The coffee shop Le Paque is convenient for coffee in the morning, the Hamilton, across the street on the back side of the hotel makes a tasty sandwich and there are many area restaurants to choose from for dinner. History, luxury, and great service. All hallmarks of the Willard.

It is very hard to fault this old classic. From the moment you walk into the hotel’s lobby to the moment you leave there isn’t much about this hotel you can fault. The two standard outs for me were the hotel’s location, right on Pennsylvania Avenue and particularly next door to the White House; and breakfast, all class but delivered in relaxed and pleasant surrounds. The hotel is famous for its ‘mint julep’ cocktails. You must try one. They might be to your taste, they certainly weren’t to mine, but well worth trying as you to settle into the history of the place. I am sure there are many more flash hotels in Washington DC but for this Aussie this place did me just fine.

We had a Jr. Suite on the top floor room 1200. From our room we could see a quarter of the White House and the Washington and Jefferson Memorials. Our room was great. We had a parlor and separate bedroom with a marble bath with tub and shower. I spent alot of time checking out hotels in Washington and could not have been happier with my choice. You are within walking distance to the White House, the monuments, and only a 10 minute walk to some of the museums. I would definately return and recommend the Willard to anyone. This is an historic hotel with alot of clout.

This hotel is worth it for the lobby and Peacocke Alley and it's closeness to everything.Staff were attentive, helpful and amiable.I was very disappointed that afternoon tea is only served on set days but worse than that is the fact that this is not written up any where.

Room Tip: The highest floors away from the elevators are best.

We had one of the newly renovated suites on the top floor. Gorgeously decorated but the one next to the lift shaft is noisy. We were moved to one further away and it was perfect.
This is now one of my top hotels in the world - great atmosphere, fantastic concierge service, beautiful room with spectacular views of the Washington monument and the Treasury building, ideal location - 3 minutes walk to the White House and 5 minutes to the Smithsonian. The reception areas are so historic, visitors not staying at the hotel come in to look.
Take a seat at the bar during the week and eavsdrop on the fascinating political conversations going on.Perfect!

Room Tip: book on line and prepay for a great rate.

The hotel is incredibly well located - near sites , restaurants and Metro. I was there on business so I am not sure about "value". The rooms were well appointed but walls seemed thin and I had a couple of leaky bathroom fixtures. The staff was helpful. Lobby and business office need an update. The daily paper was awesome and outside cafe very European.

The hotel has an old time charm if one is into this (I do not). The service is excellent and the light dinner at the outdoors resturant was very good my room was small but comfortable. It felt old although many amanties were updated. I guess it was not my style but otherwise it's a good hotel for this price range in this area of DC.
