I stayed 4 nights, accompanied by my young grandchildren. For three of those nights the service was merely great. Right at check-in and without my asking, the person at reception found a room with a sofa bed so I did not have to sleep on or pay for a rollaway. The children and I had a buffet breakfast in the hotel's dining room every morning. The waitress delighted in bringing them each a very elegant hot chocolate. We had dinner one evening. The service here was a bit spotty, but the food outstanding. Every day we were greeted by the staff like favorite relatives, they called cabs for us and made sure we had water bottles for the day. Then came the fourth night. I was taken very ill and really could not care for the children. They went down to the restaurant by themselves and when I finally was able to join them I found they were well taken care of by their favorite waitress, the hot chocolates already in place. The hotel gave me a *very* late checkout so I could lie in bed (a relative took the children for the day) until it was time to return home. Several times during the day after a gentle knock on the door, a maid asked if she could get me anything. This solicitousness was so above and beyond what I would have expected from a hotel, I cannot think of staying anywhere else on a return trip to Washington.
