What a beautiful hotel!

Rooms are small, and the views are not all on embassy row as advertized- my room faced the garbage bin out back. $47.20/day to park your car. wow! nice location- almost a neighborhood.

Room Tip: garbage truck comes early if you face the back side of the hotel

My daughter and I stayed at the Fairfax for 6 nights from April 11th and we would definitely go back.
The location is excellent, close to restaurants and transportation and the staff are superb, friendly but unobtrusive. When we asked the way to the metro at reception, the young lady came out to the street with us to point out landmarks and make sure we were clear which route to take. When I enquired about a shoe we may have left there, Gena spent two days investigating its possible whereabouts – even though our enquiry was made almost two weeks after our stay. That kind of customer service produces return visitors.
The room (2 doubles) was spacious and well-kept and the beds were very comfortable. We were on the 5th floor and both interior and exterior noise were minimal. The concierge was very helpful when approached and room service arrived with a beautiful red rose on the trolley. Public areas were well-kept and the lobbies in front of the lifts on each floor were lovely – like going into someone’s home. Newspapers of our choice delivered daily to our door were also appreciated.
Our only quibble is about the availability of wi-fi, but this is common to most hotels nowadays. At the Fairfax free wi-fi is only available in the front lobby, which is quite small with only two chairs, so it was not always easy to find somewhere to use it. In-room wi-fi has to be paid for by the day, which is annoying if you only need it for five minutes to, for example, check in for a flight. I wish all hotels would realise that nowadays they need to provide free wi-fi everywhere. For overseas visitors wi-fi is particularly important, since using our home cellphones on US networks can land us with bills for hundreds of dollars.
That said, no other complaints whatsoever and we had a fabulous stay. I wholeheartedly recommend the Fairfax. Oh - and they have lovely bathrobes!

How wonderful that your extended stay at The Fairfax at Embassy Row was so enjoyable for both you and your daughter. With our convenient location to many Dupont Circle attractions and amenities, exploring becomes absolutely stress-free and with the help of our knowledgeable Concierge, your experience can be second-to-none. We are aware that some hotel charge for Internet and some do not and hope that you can understand that charging for Internet services is our way of not passing on the cost to all our guests for a service that is not used by every guest. Thank you for your detailed comments and high praise. We hope to welcome you both back very soon.

On a recent stay at this hotel, I accidentally left a pair of pants in the room.
On returning home, I noted the loss and immediately called the hotel.
They had located the pants and FedEx the pants back to me!!
The hotel is in an excellent location and was a joy to stay at.

Pros:
- Lots of nearby food options
- Fairly close to Metro
- Decent gym
- Upscale look

Cons:
- Tiny room
- Lack of staff in the morning
- No view

The hotel is about one and a half blocks from the Metro.  There are a bunch of restaurants near the Metro station, so you should have no problem finding something to eat.  The gym was sufficient.  The hotel has an upscale look, but my room was ridiculously small.  It looked like a cabin on a cruise ship.  The view from my window was a brick wall.  I had to leave early in the morning and there was only one person working.  She was tied up with another guest who was apparently trying to accomplish a corporate takeover of the hotel, so after about 10 minutes of waiting, I figured out that I was on my own to find a cab.  Overall, while it's not anywhere near the top of my list, I did like the property and would give it another chance.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-brick wall view

We try very hard at The Fairfax at Embassy Row to ensure each and every guest receives the utmost respect and consideration and we do apologize that your experience at our front desk did not include that. However we appreciate your understanding and hope that during your next stay, you will take advantage of our knowledgeable Concierge who can assist you in any services you need in and around the area. While our hotel is closely surrounded by many historic buildings on Massachusetts Avenue, many of our rooms do have wonderful views and we would be happy to oblige your request per availability. Thank you for your review and we look forward to your next visit with us.

Location just off Dupont Circle is ideal. Hotel is beautiful property with nice size rooms for DC. Bathrooms are a little small, but typical for DC. The main reason I did not give 5 stars is because there is a noise issue. Although our room on the third floor had almost no street noise, the walls between rooms seemed to be paper thin. We could hear every conversation in the room next to us and in the hallway. Part of the problem may have been that we had an adjoining room and it could just be the doors that don't insulate sound, but the sound insulation was not up to par for this caliber of hotel.

We were also disappointed that we did not get a newspaper or room turndown service. Someone in management needs to do a better job of making sure these things happen. It's a small detail, but it is what separates the luxury collection hotels, and they are not following through.

We are delighted to learn that your stay at The Fairfax at Embassy Row was enjoyable, but do regret that you experienced noise disturbances. I am sorry that you did not receive your requested newspaper each morning, and I will investigate where we went wrong on this. We currently offer turndown service in our Deluxe category rooms and all of our suites, but not in our Superior room category. For a modest additional cost, guests in our Deluxe rooms receive a larger, well-appointed room that includes turndown service each night. Thank you for letting us know about your stay and we hope to welcome you back very soon.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

In April 2012, my family of four (daughter-12 & son-9) LOVED staying at the luxurious small hotel two blocks from Dupont Circle/Metro. We slept 9 comfortable nights in a classy superior suite.

We had two spacious rooms to spread out and unpack all our stuff. The kids slept in the living room--one on a pretty comfy sofa bed and one on a thick twin sized roll away. There was a full size dining table with four thickly stuffed dining chairs, a desk, small fridge, and flat screen TV.

My hubby and I enjoyed a good night's rest on the king-sized bed with a lovely antique-looking black/gold poster headboard. The sizable furnishings were of rich dark wood. The windows were treated with pretty high-quality cream, rust, and moss floral drapes. If your taste runs in the direction of most newer hotels that offer slick, modern, sharp-edged furnishings and sedate, controlled room treatments, this is not the hotel for you. The Fairfax is a classy dame with 100+ million in recent renovations. If you want modern with sharp angles and boring earth tones, look elsewhere.

Our master bedroom was very large with room for another sofa bed, overstuffed chair, side tables, and coffee table. We also enjoyed the large flat screen TV. It was a nice touch to have a cushioned bench at the foot of the bed.

My only gripe about our suite was the small size of the bathroom. After inquiring if all superior suites had the same small bathroom, the front desk said "yes" that the design of an older hotel (built in 1927) limited the enlargement of bathrooms. The bathroom was attractive with marble counter and plenty of room to put your items. Nice quality Remede toiletries were provided including bath salts and body sponge/scrubber.

The small size of the bathroom was almost compensated for by the highest quality Turkish cotton towels provided. My husband and I loved the large size bath sheets also offered.

Housekeeping did a nice job with daily cleanings and nightly turn downs. Please TIP these hard workers! The free paper delivery service was spotty, but I could always find one at the front desk or have one delivered quickly.

The front desk was efficient and friendly with a smile and a greeting ready. By day 2, they greeted us by our family name. The concierge Elizabeth was so sweet and ready to help us out. At the return of our day, she would want to hear the details of our adventures especially from our kids. She helped us with directions and restaurant recommendations and reservations (we even called her when we were out and about and she made reservations at a great restaurant near by). Elizabeth also helped us acquire hard to obtain tickets for the Ford Theatre Museum, the International Spy Museum, and a Washington National Baseball. Thanks, Elizabeth!

Breakfast was pricey at the restaurant Prime 2100 on the Lobby Level. The breakfast buffet was really nothing special but the fresh berries were nice. We preferred to just order al la carte. The service was really good.

We had dinner our first night and last night during our stay. The steaks were quite tasty and well prepared. The wait staff was on its toes and friendly. The attractive restaurant, decorated with classic jockey paintings, was very good for a hotel restaurant but I wouldn't make it my destination dining experience.

Overall, I would highly recommend The Fairfax at Embassy Row for its spacious suites, professional but friendly staff, and desirable location.

BOOK IT!

Room Tip: Our suite was on the 5th floor at the end of the hall. We had no street noise except once with a co...

I was in Washington DC for business. This luxury property from the Starwood hotels groups was a great find. The location is fantastic with easy accessibility to public transportation and near Dupont Circle. As a solo female traveler I felt safe walking in this area in the evening. Many restaurants nearby also.

I was pleasantly surprised when I entered my room as I had not reserved a suite. It was huge with a sitting area in the bedroom and a separate living area. Classic and traditional furnishings. Perhaps I was upgraded due to my Starwoods Gold status and didn't realize it? Bathroom was well appointed with Remede products and thick bathrobes. Very comfortable bed and fluffy pillows.

I did not eat in the hotel with the exception of room service for breakfast. Promt and good.
