“Luxury Hotel at a Good Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

My stay at the Loews Madison Hotel, D.C., over Labor Day weekend was outstanding! The valet parking was convenient and par for the course, price-wise, for D.C. at $50 for an overnight. The lobby furnishings were exquisite and the check-in process was a breeze. The room was small but more than adequate, with delightful decor. It was clean, everything worked properly, and the bathroom had two well-lit vanities with marble tops. The location is ideal with the White House being only a few blocks away. If you're in shape for walking, there are a few museums within reach, such as the Natural History Museum and art galleries (the aquarium will be closing MAR 2014). The beds are very firm, which is wonderful, but they are not soft, which makes them a bit uncomfortable. A pillow top would make all of the difference! The room door was in an alcove off of the main hallway, where three room doors were located, so it was pretty quiet, and on the fifth floor, I heard no noise from the street below. Breakfast at Post Script was fantastic. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere is one of luxury. The staff is friendly and accomodating and for the price, I felt the value was very good. Complimentary internet in the rooms for one's devices was a definite delighter! I would absolutely stay there again on my next trip to D.C. and would recommend this hotel.

Located just a few blocks from the White House and if you're in shape just a few more block to the National Mall, the Madison is the perfect home base for exploring the capital. Recently remodeled I believe we were told upon check in the rooms are excellent and clean. The food downstairs is excellent though a bit pricy, but that's to be expected in a hotel. Still it's worth it. Be sure to hit the bar, the girls behind it are friendly and make a great drink! Even Shirley Temples for the kids. Asked for a room change shortly after check in because the HVAC fans were outside my window. They had nothing which I said was fine I would survive. But the next morning they rang me up and said they had a new room ready for me, apologized and upgraded me to a city view! Thanks to Marine at the front desk, she and the rest of the staff made our stay at the Madison one to remember!

Our travel agent had booked a quad for 4 and we had the booking confirmation. Unfortunately there was only one bed, (we were travelling with our 2 adult daughters.) I didn't like the way reception tried to apportion blame as this was not really our problem and was not helpful. They had no spare quad rooms due to MLKs 50th anniversary. We accepted roll away beds. The man who put up these beds was absolutely golden and restored my faith in human nature. We were moved the next day. Most of the staff were excellent. Helpful, friendly and efficient. Some, however, (the man who served us breakfast on our 2nd day) were not and we experienced poor attitude and service. The hotel itself is gorgeous and well located for The Whitehouse. Good restaurants, try Woodward's table we had a lovely meal here, are located mostly on 14th Street, but they do close quite early. The hotel restaurant is good.

Room Tip: If you do have a quad and there are 4 of you, you need to specifically ask for enough coffee, cups...

Stayed here for a week while visiting DC. Booked through hotwire and got a decent rate. Room was clean and comfy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant downstairs was pricy but the food was good, ate there the first night when we arrived as we were to tired to find a restaurant. Didn't find a lot of good restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but there are some nice restaurants on 14th St which was about a 15 minute walk. Location was nice and quiet, but not much to do close by. Subway station is about a 10 minute walk away. Had a great time exploring the Smithsonian museums and Georgetown. Spy Museum and Crime Museum are also worth visiting. Would recommend this hotel - the only downside for me was location, involved a lot of walking/taking subway every day to get anywhere.

Perfect location with the whitehouse literally down the road. Rooms were lovely, only moan is that you have to pay for bottles of water which were 4 dollars each, bit over priced but you had a fantastic selection of snacks and sweets but these too have to be paid for. the breakfast was nice, we opted for tge continental breakfast with juice, coffee and croissants but the cooked breakfast looked very yummy indeed.the the staff were very helpful with directions and maps to hand. The only thing with all the hotels in this area is that there is no parking on the street. You have to park in the multi storey across the road, and pay for it. Would definately stay here again and will recommend to anyone considering a visit to washington. I couldnt believe how close we were to the whitehouse which is literally a stroll down the road. A must see is the lincoln memorial and the vietnam war memorial. There is a plaque here with thousands of names of soldiers who died which is very sad and to answer any questions in relation to this memorial is a volunteer who was an ex vietnam vet. A must see for anyone.

We arrived at the Loews Madison at 9:00PM. Someone took us to our room and when he opened the door, we only saw 1 bed. We booked this room way in advance (March) and we booked a Deluxe room with 2 Queen Beds. When we told this man about the mistake, he immediately said to us that this is the last room available and if we didn't like it, we have to go to another hotel. We asked him to check with the front desk. Again he said that it wouldn't make a difference, because he already knew what they would say…no more rooms available and move to another hotel. We told him that we have the confirmation about the 2 Queen Beds but he told us that if we made our reservation at Booking.com or Expedia (this is where we booked), the hotel can't guarantee the room. So, in our case travelling with 2 kids (13 & 15 years old), we just have to take this room with 1 bed. We asked him where he thought we would sleep then. He answered that he could arrange for 1 extra bed and the last person would have to find a place to sleep. Well, there was no sofa in the room. I guess he meant in a chair. Of course, we didn't accept that. He would make it better by giving us a free breakfast for the 3 nights we would be staying there. Well, that still didn't solve the problem with the sleeping arrangements. When I said to him that we've booked with Expedia for many years without problems, he said and I quote…"well, you're a guest, so I can't say that you're lying but it's not true". So he did call me a liar. That's so rude!! We told him we wanted to go to the front desk and discuss this matter with them. He wasn't pleased, but we went downstairs. A friendly man helped us further and while he was talking to us, another man came up to us and said there's nothing available. I'm sure he was the one the bell boy was on the phone with. Anyway, the man who was helping us told him to leave him alone. He would figure out something. After a few minutes (looking at the computer), he told us he changed a group reservation, because they hadn't specifically asked about a room with 2 Queen Beds. So we could have that room. Yeah, right!! We booked this room and now we can finally have this room. By this time it was already 10:00PM. The same bell boy took us up to the room and said we passed up on the best room in the hotel, by not taking the other room. Well, why would that be the best room. We're a party of 4 and it only could take 2 people. Rude, rude, rude!!
The room was clean, although the bathroom was quite small. We've stayed at cheaper hotels where the bathroom was a lot bigger.
One night when we got back to the hotel, the door man had already opened the front door for other guests, but instead of saying "good evening" to the guests and to us, he just ignored everyone and kept on talking to his colleagues. We said "good evening", but he was too busy. All in all, we will never go back to this hotel. It's convenient for walking to the White House, but there are plenty hotels in the same area. Parking is $50 a night. The rude staff really ruined this stay for us.

The Madison is one of my favorite luxury hotels in DC. It offers a combination of traditional elegance with stylish furnishings throughout the hotel. Your experience begins with the professional and very knowledgable doormen who set the tone for the stay. The rooms are luscious and plush, complete with bedroom slippers and robes, the way a luxury hotel should be!

The area closes down quite early so you may need to walk a few blocks to get to restaurants. bars, shopping etc. A CVS is just around the block for good convenience.

The hotel seems to be aware of current affairs and events and provides materials and gifts accordingly (at least for the time I was there). Highly recommended.
