“Great location but is under renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2011

This hotel is in an excellent location. You can walk to the White House in about 10 minutes.
For traveling with kids, you can find a 24hr CVS pharmacy 1 block away, a coffee place across the street, and a taxi ride to the museums and monuments for around 10-12 dollars.
Being under renovation, it seems like the staff are all new and are being trained. I have allergies to dust, and my eyes were itchy the few nights we were there. I think the construction dust was the cause.
I booked this on Priceline for $90 a night, so I am not complaining...just pointing out some things. This hotel has great potential after the renovation is complete.

TheMadison, Manager at Loews Madison Hotel, responded to this review, December 8, 2011
Thanks for your feedback on our hotel. We are in a great location – a block away from CVS (as you mentioned), coffee across the street, as well as the Metro just 3 blocks to our south. While we are currently undergoing renovations and training our staff, there is great potential for The Madison to be a superb product in Washington. I apologize for the dust and we’ll continue to monitor the impact our renovations could potentially be having on our guests. Our lobby will be completely renovated in the middle of January and our first series of rooms will be back in service in late December. We look forward to welcoming you back in the new year, and perhaps booking through our new website for your next visit.

Warm regards,

Gavin Philipp

I spent a few nights recently at the Madison for a work-related trip to DC. I had a great stay! The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the hotel well located, and the room was nice. I especially LOVED the free WIFI! (Such a rarity in these higher end hotels I stay in for work where you tend to pay more and get less.) The hotel is right downtown so it's easy to walk to most sights, and only minutes from 2 Metro stations for more distant trips. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in DC for work.

We booked the capital romantic package and were absolutely happy with our choice! The Hotel is very well located and very beautiful. The Madison upgraded us to a Grand King room (we booked Deluxe King and expected maybe an upgrade to Luxury King, but not to Grand King!). Our room was very clean, with beautiful furniture and offered everything you need. The staff was very nice and polite and made our stay very comfortable. We definitely recommend this hotel.

We booked this hotel on Hotwire for a weekend getaway in DC. Hotwire rated them as 4.5 stars. I would barely call this hotel 2 stars. I specifically called the hotel to tell them that we needed to check in at 3 - so please have the room ready then- their standard check in time. When we got there, room wasn't ready because previous person "had a late checkout"- asked for another room and got nowhere. We waited until 4, started to unpack and then got a knock on the door from housekeeping that the toilet was stopped up and they needed to fix it. They didn't fix it and the entire stay (3 days 2 nights), this was a problem (toilet overflowed twice- they still wouldn't switch our room). Bathroom had rust stains. Bedroom had carpet stains. Bed was extremely uncomfortable- we went with another couple and all of us woke up both mornings with backaches. Hallways smelled from cooked food. When we checked out, hotel wouldn't give us a receipt- they said the receipt should come from HOTWIRE, even though we used some of the hotel services.

The Madison is a great hotel in a great location. Just a few blocks form the White House/Mall area. Same for Dupont Circle. Older hotel but with lot's of class and history. Nice new restaurant!
