“Weekend Getaway at Jefferson in DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2010

My partner and I wanted to spend a relaxing weekend in the city. Dining, SPA, tourist attractions, and the theater were on the list. We selected the Jefferson because of its uniqueness and reputation for stellar individual service. We have done this kind of weekend getaway in DC at several other five-star DC hotels: Ritz downtown, Ritz Georgetown, Four Seasons, and the Willard. So the Jefferson was the next obvious choice. I will say that it in the uniqueness (architecture, furnishings, physical space) of the hotel it was superior to all others. In service only the Four Seasons surpassed it. And that was not for want of trying. The only service issues were sometimes they were not on the same page. These kinds of lapses of communication would never have occurred at the Four Seasons. But they are very trivial and I only bring them up to give a full honest assessment. They corrected the minor service glitches quickly. The room was fabulous. We had an Executive Suite and the extra space was wonderful. You will not be disappointed in any manner with this room. I have heard the standard rooms can be small so be aware of that. If I stay again at the Jefferson, which is our intention, it will be in a Suite. The food was magnificent and the facilities are top notch. We did several SPA treatments and the service was the best I have ever received at any SPA. The personal attention is what makes this hotel unique. During our SPA treatments the entire place was to ourselves. It is a rare private experience. The SPA itself does not have all of the SPA amenities that you might find at a resort hotel, ie: pool, or whirlpool, hydra treatments, being the most noteworthy. However, they offer a full suite of SPA treatments and a wonderful steam room. Again the level of personal service is top notch. The piano bar is fabulous and the hotel location of course is perfect for the attractions. All the staff tried very very hard to make our stay enjoyable and they exceeded our rather high expectations. Congrats to the Jefferson and its staff for having, in our opinion, the best luxury hotel in the city- but get a suite.

Recently remodeled, The Jefferson is one of the loveliest hotels I've ever visited. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully appointed. The staff is attentive and very well trained. My stay was perfect.

Wow! A 5 star hotel with European feel. Perfectly restored to its' former glorious character now with modern amenties but still that Old World feel. Service impeccable and constant. Staff could not do enough for us. Location ideal...5 blocks from the White House and all the other landmarks so easy to reach on foot. (We did 6 hours of touring on foot....) Room had every luxury imaginable with deep Kohler soaker tub and separate shower stall. Double sinks and TV imbedded in mirror. Linens: all towels and bedding Porthault ....We felt as if we were in Paris or Italy. Had to pinch ourselves to believe this is USA! Great bar, mixologist dream for choice of interesting cocktails; modern backlit orange glass bar in a heavily wood-panelled "Club" old school surrounding. After spending 9 hours on the road from Montreal, Canada on our way to Florida, this was the best surprise of our trip! We would definitely go back!!!

Outstanding hotel in every detail! Elegant and comfortable furnishings. Even the carefully selected books arranged in the room were "must reads." From the window of our corner room we could see the Washington monument and a bit of the White House. Walking distance to Dupont Circle. Service from every member of the staff was excellent, friendly, but not pompous. Food and service in both restaurants, the elegant Plume and the casual Quill, where we enjoyed most meals during our stay, was always memorable. One of the best hotels we've stayed at anywhere in the world.

We were greeted warmly and offered an upgrade for only $100 to a luxurious suite. It was a perfect blend of spacious and cozy. The furnishings were just perfect ...everywhere you looked another piece of art or a bowl of apples or a globe sitting in the window. We loved everything about our stay. The food at the Quill was wonderful, the bar lively and festive, and all the employees happy to serve us and make our stay as comfortable as possible. This hotel deserves all the stars they give to the best hotels in the U.S. K Mccarthy

Elegant and gracious service from every employee. The suite was perfectly furnished with beautiful details and the bed incredibly comfortable...I want that bed and those bed linens at home. Dinner in the restaurant was sublime and breakfast perfect for a meeting.

I've been staying at The Jefferson every year or two for decades. This was the first time I've been there since it's reopened after its renovation. Everything about the renovation is a complete success -- the hotel is simply beautiful.

That said, my premium room had a small design problem -- it seemed smaller than the old rooms, and a tad crowded. There was no comfortable place to put a room service table, except to put in directly in front of the side of the bed (it made eating awkward). Also, the tv can only be watched if the cabinet doors are open, but the doors don't "disappear" back into the cabinet.. There is very little room between the bed and the tv cabinet, and it's impossible to walk to the closet, or the door if the cabinet's doors are open (you'd get hit). Also, the desk chair is too low for the desk. I am 5 ft. 6, but still had to prop myself up on a pillow in order to use my computer at the desk. (the free internet is also a plus!). Still, the room was quite lovely, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and well equipped. There was a huge and well regulated shower (but no bathtub).

The sitting room downstairs is cozy and pretty, and the bar is well staffed, handsome and comfortable. I didn't eat in the restaurant, but I did have room service. The food was good quality, and pricey (as expected), and it was delivered promptly. There was one small mixup with one of my orders, but they fixed it quickly. I did have to call room service nearly two hours after I put my table outside the door because they hadn't picked it up yet (it's a small hotel so I'm guessing this is not usual for them).

The staff are efficient and warm enough (the concierge, however, was extremely pleasant and seemed genuine about it). They have a lot of doormen, and yet they were not as attentive as they should have been; I opened my own door on several occasions while the staff chatted with each other.

All in all these are minor quibbles, but worth noting because the hotel is nearly perfect.
I did stay in other hotels while The Jefferson was being renovated, but I will be back at The Jefferson from now on.
