Returned to the Jefferson to celebrate an anniversary, having spent our wedding night there many years ago. Pleasant enough stay, but the Hotel has some serious flaws. The corridors were musty and worn, with residential dehumidifiers plugged in every 30 feet or so, running constantly. Suppose it kept the smell down, but not what one expects at $500 a night. The room was dated and tired, and the bathroom worse. We live in an old house, so it felt like home, but again, it was hard not to feel taken advantage of at the prices they are charging. The lack of water pressure, and bursts of cold water, certainly added to the down home feeling.
There is ongoing exterior construction, which wasn't a big problem, but I was suprised to find a workman right ouside my sixth floor window, a warning would have been nice.
That said, the service was pretty flawless, and the lobby lit by only candlelight was really beautiful. Valets, front desk, and the housekeeping staff were all first rate. Restaurant was nice, and breakfast was great.
The place has "great bones" and we'll probably return for sentimental reasons. And if you're used to old buildings and houses, and not bothered by some frayed edges and old bathrooms, this may suit your fancy. However, I really wouldn't recommend this hotel if you have other options.
