“A Perfect Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2014

My husband and I were lucky enough to secure a room at this centrally located hotel for one night. Everything from check in, housekeeping, to check out was flawless. We felt like royalty every time an employee was able to anticipate our every wish before we even had to ask. I was especially impressed with the polish and friendliness of the employees. Our room had an amazing view of the White House and included the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Cheers to the entire staff; you are all the epitome of perfection and luxury.

What a hotel! Nice and elegant service. Super classy rooms. I booked a lafayette park view room in which the first night i stayed. I had one on the lower level which was sad because i couldn't see the white house out of my room although i think you might have a white house view on the winter. Nothing bad about the room because it was all what i want in a room. Good service is in the small details for example when they come to arrange your room for the evening they put slippers next to your bed to walk with, amazing! A special thank you to the friendly gentleman that is the concierge(wish i could remember his name). I told him on saturday i wanted to go to minibar or cityzen which are both places where it`s normally impossible to book a restaurant at the same day. The concierge got me in at Cityzen which was very impressive. Next day i got upgraded to the lafayette suite which has to be one of the nicest rooms i ever staid in. If you really want to be pampered i would advice to book this room. Before going to this hotel my favorite hotel in dc was The Capella which is also fantastic. You can just not compare one with another. But if you would forse me to make a choice i would probably go with the Hay-Adams! Congrats to the whole team!!

This hotel exceeded our expectations as far as being a central location for our visit and their customer service. The hotel staff, reception and concierge, were so pleasant and welcoming. The room was beautiful and turn down service was nice after a long day of walking around DC. We only stayed one night, but after checkout the hotel held onto our luggage so we could continue to explore the city before our PM flight without carrying our bag around- so helpful! We were escorted to the roof area to take in the breathtaking view of the White House and take some pictures. The only issue we had was, after our long day and wanting to crash out, we realized the bedding was goose down, which my boyfriend was slightly allergic to. It was too late to request new bedding from the housekeeping staff, which had left for the day, but the staff did what they could to find hypoallergenic pillows and an extra blanket to bring to our room. I found the replacement pillows to be much to stiff to sleep on.
Overall an amazing stay and hope that we will be back if we decide on another trip to DC.

After a wonderful 17 days travelling through West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky we flew back in to DC from Cincinnatti for 3 days in Washington. The Hay Adams was just the icing on the cake, a little gem, a slice of understated elegance and luxury. Upon arrival the hotel upgraded our room as it was a special occasion and as it was Tim's birthday without prompt or request we found 2 lovely birthday cakes complete with candle for Tim and a bottle of bubbly and a lovely card with best wishes in our room in the afternoon.

Having had a long day we ordered room service lunch on the first day. It was delivered and presented beautifully on a lovely linen clothed table. The wine, was chilled beautifully and was exquisite, the seared tuna cooked to perfection. Dinner on the first night was relaxed and mature, the Dover Sole perfectly cooked and quite huge. The softly lit restaurant and piano playing accompaniment rounded off a perfect first day. Great ambience, intimate and romantic and yet private - a great venue for a business dinner. The place oozes an olde worlde charm, leaving you feeling welcome, respected, special and as if you are in a movie set from days gone by when manners made man and customer service was just what hotels did and was taken for granted. The concierge service was first rate, as was reception and room service.. and Tim says thanks for the great shoe shine service. From calling a cab to asking about travel and eating nothing was too much trouble. The staff were friendly and on the ball without being intrustive or obsequious. Probably the best service I have encountered anywhere in the world. Small things like the iced strawberry and mint water or the cucumber water in the lobby set this place apart. Breakfast was heaven, cosmopolitan and served with aplomb.

Our room was spacious, light and airy and couldn't have been kept better. This probably rates as in my top 3 favourite hotels I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a lot.

Great location in easy walking distance of all the great monuments and a stone's throw from the Whitehouse. Don't let anyone tell you different, this is the best hotel in DC and kicks the Willard out of the ballpark. We can't wait to return.

We stayed at the Hay-Adams for just one night this past weekend. We flew into DC Saturday morning and were flying out Sunday evening so we needed a hotel close to all of the sights. The Hay-Adams was absolutely amazing in every way.

Overall (4.75/5 stars)

Location (5/5 stars)
The Hay Adams is located across the street from the White House. You can see it from many of the rooms (including ours). After walking all around DC on Saturday it was nice to have a one block walk to the hotel from the White House. Also, we wanted frozen yogurt at 9PM and it was just a 5 minute walk to a FroYo place.

Service (5/5 stars)
We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. First off we were upgraded to a King Bed on the 8th floor. Then the front desk staff gave us a brief tour of the hotel and handed us off to the concierge to answer any questions we had about the area. We mentioned we forgot a deck of cards and they sent one up to the room moments later. They also saw us walking with an ice bucket out of our room and insisted they fill it up for us and we return to our room.

Room (5/5 stars)
Our view was amazing. We also enjoyed the complimentary CD's in the room and relaxed while listening to Michael Buble through a great sound system. The bed was incredibly comfortable. I haven't slept that well in ages. The curtains work well as blackout curtains and I was able to sleep-in until 8AM which never happens at home. There was a fireplace (I don't think it was operational) in our room that had birch wood (my favorite) which was a really nice touch.

Price (4/5 stars)
The only drawback to this hotel is the price. Yes, it is high. However you really get what you pay for. Our hotel stay for the one night amounted to 75% of our total weekend costs however it was truly a highlight. We aren't wealthy and we did feel slightly out of place in such an elegant hotel however it was one night we will both remember for the rest of our lives. It was worth the cost for us for the one night. Hopefully someday we will be able to afford to go back!

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best views.

We stayed at the Hay Adams for our wedding night, and absolutely loved our experience. When I called to book, I explained the occasion of our stay, and the hotel upgraded our room. Upon arrival, the staff was quick to congratulate us--we even found a bottle of sparkling grape juice, chocolate covered strawberries, and mouse cookies in the room for us.

Staff was always attentive and prompt; great customer service experience. And on top of that, the aesthetics of the hotel were great: gorgeous lobby, beautiful rooms, and great views of DC, all within close proximity to popular DC landmarks. In addition, this hotel treats guests with a great deal of class and elegance--so glad I stayed there!
